New Issue

Hey everyone, I finally got the website updated! Woo! The new issue is a whopping 15 MB, so be prepared for a long download for those of your without broadband (and even some of you who have DSL). I’ll see if I can get into the office tomorrow to whittle down the size of the PDF.

UPDATE: Okay, the issue is now a nice 2.5 or so MB and the pages that didn’t work in Acrobat should work now (Acrobat seems to be a very finicky program).

Well, the ODE has actually been on our side on this one. Quite on our side, they deserve mad props for that, despite a few damn terrible reporters.

  2. Traci says:

Recently I have been made aware that your publication has been under siege and attack by either U of O government or the Emerald staff. Regardless, I am aware that it is at least the second time in the past few years that you have had to defend your right to write. I do not agree, and have often been offendeded by your views and positions, but I am more offended that you are constantly defending your right to print. I work at a campus bar and am supported by that income but I feel that your publication forces people to think for themselves and take a stance whereby they may not have unless prompted by indignation, offense or support. Is that not democracy, education and liberty defined through action rather than words? You recently had a rally/ support meeting at Rennies and the turnout disappointed us all. Campaign and fight for yours and all of our voices! If I must I will say Fuck the Emerald and Fuck the U of O student body. Those who hate you read you for honesty and those who love you read for direction. Keep up the good work.
    Sincerely,
    A Campus Bartender

Hey all. I am reluctantly writing this message, for i can only imagine the potential havoc it might wrack, but i’ve spotted your summer issue, and am flattered to be considered the rising star of the year. Well, this rising star is kicking it in Eugene for at least a few months longer. I wanted to alert you specific happenings in my world, since ya’ll seem to be my biggest (only?) fans. This week, Sunday (the 12th?), at 11 pm on KVWA (you can get this on the internet as well) I will be the guest host of Anarchy Radio, along with a friend. Feel free to call in, as long as the subject isn’t regarding personal attacks on me, or totally off-topic. That doesn’t mean you can’t be critical tho. Just exercise some restraint that’s all.

More regularly, starting in fall, I will still be hosting the open mic on campus at the Buzz. That will be Fridays at 8 oclock.

Right now, my list of projects includes two selfmade chapbooks: a small number of new poems, and a little tome of stuff iwrote in my emerald columns, revised for clarity (at least from the perspective of this cat), with stuff that i wrote but never was published. If anyone is interested in these projects, just let me know.

thanks for all your attention this last year.

    love and anarchy,
    aaron

Courtney — Your personally signed issue will be in the mail as soon as we get the issue back (mid next week, I think), and as soon as we know what your mailing address is.

    Keep in touch.

  5. Courtney says:

Hey Tyler, you’re mailing a copy of the new issue to me, right? ‘Cause it does contain the only story I actually wrote for the OC, so it would be nice to have physical proof.

  6. Mene says:

So I don’t read the OC blog for two weeks because I’m busy moving and I miss the hilarity that is Eric Bailey’s livejournal.

I was curious as to why his name was suddenly deleted from my “friends of” list. And by curious, I mean that I gave it a half-second of thought.

Good work on finding that old gem guys. And great job on putting it in spew. Bailey’s been gone a year, but he’ll never leave the OC, so long as there is fodder to be found.

  7. Troutfur says:

Hey, I’m pumped about the new issue, excited to put my grubby eyebulbs on it.

I wish I could find the OC in as many places as that piece of crap Eugene Weekly (other than the music-around-town-listings, that severe waste of resources called EW is only good for my compost bin). You cats need to plant your shit everywhere. I’ve been increasingly loud about the OC. I don’t want money. I just want more people to know about it.

I remember back in ’95 when a hippy friend of mine brought a few issues back to Illinois. He told me: “That’s where you belong, asshole.” I told him: “You left your pan-handling-sign in Eugene, you stinky freak.” Well, now I’m here. When I escape Lane Communist College, mayhaps (perchance) I will awake groggily hungover in the office of the OC, for a salary of zero-gratitude.

What I really wanted to say: The “HATE” issue was outstanding work. I want to wallpaper my house with it. The “Eugene” piece, the “UO” piece, and the “Hipsters” piece were my favorites. Absolutely incredible rants, near and dear to my heart. Hilarious and point-on. I’ve been sending links to everybody I know. Over and over. Good job, folks. Thanks!

    Keith

  8. Danimal says:

Hey Sho you should call Dan on Friday!

  9. Tyler says:

There you go, the Summer Issue, in all its splendor.

I think it’s a pretty good Summer Issue overall, even if there are some minor problems. One thing that bothers me is that two pages of the PDF are screwed up — and they belong to MY piece. We’ll fix that when Sho stops by.

Anyway, much thanks to Jeremy with the help, and to all those who contributed; this is a nice first issue.
