Economists VS. The Draft

Tyler Cowen over at Marginal Revolution points to a short history lesson about the end of the US Draft. Major roles were played by Milton Friedman and Allen Greenspan among others, as well as economist William Meckling. According to that story Meckling was probably the most influential in that decision. To think, I’d never even heard of him before. So, thanks Economists for making the world safer for lazy, post-college schlubs. Oh, and thanks to Richard Nixon too for putting that council together. Man, never thought I’d be thanking Nixon for anything.

Another good website for political and economic reviews is chicagoboyz.net. This is my first term here at oregon, and im glad to have you guys around!

I tell you what. In the Marines, I couldn’t have someone there that didn’t want to be. I’m a leader, and im can’t inspire the unwilling to be couragous. Enough of the people who join are shi-birds….
    rant..

    Ah, the draft.

While we’re on the topic, I am mightily amused by sites like this one. Ladies and gentlemen, there is not going to be a draft. It would be absolute political suicide. It’s not happening. It’s deader than the FMA. Even Charles Rangel (D-NY) isn’t loopy enough to be serious about this one, although he’s doing his best to convince people.
