The FIRE to UO Administration: “We are committed to using all of our resources in support of students’ expressive rights”

It’s not all doom and gloom out there. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has just dispatched a letter to Frohnmayer and every other UO Administrator reminding them that funding us fairly is their job, and it is far past time to step in and clean up the mess that Quiroz et al have made in the sandbox.

Here here! Now back to fine journalism about hate-fucking and boobies!

  2. Timothy says:

    mmm…booze.

  3. Danimal says:

    Drink!

  4. Timothy says:

Oh man, if you wan’t real entertainment check out the trolling over on Verdon’s blog, which is how I realized who exactly it was.

  5. Danimal says:

She has a point, though, about us being whiny and self-absorbed of late.

(It’s kind of hard to avoid when a publication devoted to monitoring campus kerfuffles becomes itself the latest campus kerfuffle. What are we to do, not talk about it?)

However, you can learn a lot about a pot from what it says about the kettle. You want boring, self-absorbed, whiny, and pointless blogging? Look no further than this:

Yea, someone remind me why she’s not a current UofO.. or even ASU.. material anymore?

  7. Timothy says:

Please welcom ex-UO professor and noted blog troll Deborah Frisch. Who, from her mountian top hideout in Arizona, has nothing better to do than post obnoxiously to obscure blogs she doesn’t like.

  8. Sho says:

    Oh, snap!

  9. lefty says:

What a boring, self-absorbed, whiny, pointless blog. Just like the Oregon Commentator itself!

    Keep up the good work!

As a 3-year Emerald alum and a long time reader of the OC, I just got more and more furious every time I heard about the actions of the morons in the ASUO offices. You guys have handled it great, and I’m really glad FIRE is getting involved. Good luck, and kick some ass.

  11. Melissa says:

Tim: I was going to talk to Tyler about that this afternoon. I drafted my Polly nomination on Friday. Great minds, eh?

  12. Murray says:

That’s fantastic. Keep up the good work guys. It’s good to have someone with a big stick behind you, but don’t let your own actions slide because of it.

  13. Josh M. says:

Awesome. I was wondering when FIRE was going to make their feelings known.

  14. Timothy says:

In a few more, I think y’all have done an excellent job handling this, and ought to be commended hightly. Somebody also ought to nominate it for a Polly over at the CN site.

Good work folks, eventhough I know you’re not out of the woods yet you’ve done well on this, done the organization proud. Now, about that publication schedule….

  15. Timothy says:

    In a word: SHABOOM!

  16. Big M says:

The FIRE has officially arrived at the U of O.

Hopefully this puts the lid on things, especially with the citation of Hustler vs. Falwell and others.

And someone really should cite that GLBT case, as well.
