Ward Churchill: Felony Violation Of Godwin’s Law

Ordinarily, a pack of wild pigs would be incapable of dragging me to a symposium entitled “Homeland ‘In’Security: Race, Immigration and Labor in Post-9/11 North America” – so I’m saddened by the news that embattled University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill will not be attending.

This is a wise move on the part of the organizers. Churchill’s participation would have swamped whatever the meeting was supposed to be about, as people quizzed him on precisely how he justified describing the people in the Twin Towers as “little Eichmanns”. I was certainly curious to hear him try to dig his way out of, or more likely through, that one.

Here, by the way, is the comprehensive Volokh discussion on academic freedom that followed in the wake of the original story.

  1. Clint T. says:

It wasn’t so much about calling you sensible; as it was to making sure I was able to refer to myself as an arrogant prick.

Now thats important. Of course.. after this week.. I doubt I had to tell anyone around here. Even Deb was dying to being recognized as such.

  2. Melissa says:

Aw. Aren’t you just a cute little suck-up.

  3. Clint T. says:

Disclaimer: The Commentator neither endorses nor approves of my next few steps in researching/contacting the psychology department at UofA. However, they can reserve the right to be mildly amused by the outcome.

So this dumb bitch just goes around and impersonates people on blogs? And she wonders why she wasn’t tenured? I know universities are all about employing slightly crazy people.. but apparently tenure only goes to those crazy people that are boarderline genius.. not those crazy people with incredibily annoying habits and personalities who take the time out of their pathetic existence to impersonate faceless internet twits.

Oh wait.. you said Deb is reading.. ?

Mel, it only makes me feel better because its nice knowing she mimics the voice of sensibility and not just arrogant pricks like myself.

  4. Timothy says:

Used to teach at the UO, I had her for the laughably named “PSY 330: Thinking” in spring of 2001. Woman thinks she’s the heir apparent to Carl Sagan, hilarious really. In sum: dumber than mud.

Keeps threatening, on other blogs no less, to “finally name names” about the people who denied her tenure at UO if I “piddle on her again”, also, she has called me “poodle boy” on said same other blog [DRINK!]. Consider this me relieving myself, Deb. I know you’re reading.

And, Sho, you’re damn right I banned her again. I think the initial ban got her house, this got her office. If she’s desperate enough to use the labs at school just to be a blog troll, well, I know how to use blacklist :-).

  5. Sho says:

To be fair, I think the person posting as “mdog” was using a computer from the EMU lab, and from somewhere else on the UO campus.

And yeah, she used to teach psychology at the UofO, and now she’s at Arizona.

  6. Melissa says:

Sho: She’s a prof?! Good heavens. That is embarassing.

  7. Melissa says:

Clint: if it makes you feel any better, she was posting under my name for a while. I knew it had gone too far when someone called to make sure it was not me confessing a love for good ole Ward.

  8. Sho says:

Well, I’ll keep Deb’s IP private for now. But any more shenanigans from her and I won’t hesitate to release it. Anyway, I think Tim banned her again, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she found another way on here. Really, we wouldn’t mind her presence if she could articulate her disagreements with us, instead of resorting to sarcasm, insults and masquerading as other commenters. It’s really an embarassing way for a professor to act.

Clint: Good times, man. Good times.

  9. Clint T. says:

Yea, no harm done Jan. I have no ill-will towards the homosexual community AT ALL. I live in the Bay Area – while that doesn’t excuse my use the f word, I also didn’t think using that word should get me affiliated with the OCA.

Anyway, lets hug it out, bitch. (HBO anyone?)

  10. Clint T. says:

Yea, for some reason or another I figured it was that troll from Arizona with no credentials. I wonder if I should take offense to her using my email address and if I should make good and mess with something of hers. Anyway are we posting IP details of something like that, just for those of us who might be interested? Not that my last 2 sentences have anything to do with one another.

Speaking of likable guys. Sho is the most likable guy in the planet. Imagine if he was on the board at the PFC/ASUO (when he ran for president..) the commentator wouldn’t be defunded and we’d have a special program created to increase the enrollment of big breasted women at the UofO. Ahh.. nostalgia.

  11. Jan says:

hehe, recruiting poor journalism students while dealing with a pounding headache and slurred speech, Tim? Those were good times. I seem to remember a story about somebody running into a tree…

Clint: Dude, I never attacked you personally, I simply suggested you don’t have fond feelings toward gay people based on your use of the word “fag,” and I didn’t think that was relevant to the debate. But if I’m mistaken, I can deal with that. I like the OC blog because it doesn’t have people bickering about stupid shit. So let’s keep it that way 😀

  12. Timothy says:

    Deb, you ignorant slut.

  13. Sho says:

Interesting note: The person who impersonated Clint has an IP that is traced back to the University of Arizona’s psychology department. What notable comment troll teaches psychology at that university and has also commented here recently? Take a guess. Truly sad.

  14. Timothy says:

I do not know from whence this Jangression originates, but I can say Jan is a pretty damn likable guy. Remember that time we were both hung over at that J-school recruitment presentation, buddy?

  15. Andy D says:

he likes everyone (guys and girls included), with the exception of jan.

  16. Timothy says:

    No.

  17. Danimal says:

Grammatical trouble: what did “the exception” refer to? Now let’s make nice and shut up.

  18. Clint T. says:

Neither does you assuming I referred to you as a girl. Dumbass.

  19. Jan says:

Dude that just doesn’t make any sense.

  20. Clint T. says:

Don’t worry, not quite a girl, not quite a woman either.. I know, I know.

  21. Jan says:

I’m not a girl, you fucktard.

  22. Clint T. says:

Edit: I mean, I like you guys, and girls, with the exception of Jan.

I noticed the jerkoff used my email addy too.. ::shrug::

  23. Clint T. says:

Nope, not me. I like you guys, believe it or not.

  24. Danimal says:

    Clint? Nice try.

  25. anon says:

You sure are a bunch of pompous, smug windbags with nothing to say!

    Good job!

  26. Andy says:

I’d say that makes incomprehensible slaughter successful is muderering millions of your own and other people, and still having europe defend your actions and appease your every whim.

Luckly like Ronald said, “Evil is powerless when good men are unafriad.”

  27. Clint T. says:

Uh, why are you responding to him – the dude uses a Mac? He has no credibility.

  28. Stan says:

“long history of incomprehensible slaughter carried out by the USA (not uniquely of course, but perhaps most succesfully)”

I really want to know what makes an incomprehesible slaughter successful. Is it the cocktails?

Seriously, I want to see a country that doesn’t have a few shameful incidents in its past. The US is bush-league compared to (for instance) the swathe that France and England ,managed to cut through Africa back at the turn of the century. And most slave trading was done on Africans, by Africans.

To claim that the US is the inventor of man’s inhumanity to man, or even the worst proponent of it, is at best naive or risible.

  29. Timothy says:

  30. Melissa says:

…I must be posting in my sleep. My liberal Deb-like Id has been known to emerge when my moderate super ego is resting. My bad.

  31. Big M says:

Mdog, apparently, has had way too much to drink.

I support the scam that is the USA by going to school at the UofO. See, they pay federal taxes.

    Bada bing.

  32. Timothy says:

    Deb, Deb is that you?

  33. troll says:

Did anybody listen to the Churchill speech? I’ll try to stop being so inflamatory, but the long history of incomprehensible slaughter carried out by the USA (not uniquely of course, but perhaps most succesfully) makes me SO ANGRY. I don’t know how you conservatives do it (support the scam that is the usa), other than through willfully ignoring substantial parts of history and considering only your own self-interest.

  34. Pete says:

    Drink!

  35. Chris says:

    Snap! Lebowski quote!

  36. Walter S. says:

Say what you will about the tenets of national socialism Dude, at least it’s an ethos.

  37. nathaniel says:

I have a question, why doesn’t Pol Pot get any love? I mean he killed a decent percentage of his countries people, emptied the cities, made everyon work on farms, my favorite bit is how he had his followers kill people with farm tools to save bullets. Despite all of this you never hear of anyone comparing Bush, or anyone else to the Khmer Rouge. My suggestion, next time you need a widely innacurate comparison, use Pol Pot instead of Adolph or any other Nazi.

  38. nathaniel says:

Not to defend him too much as he does seem to lack any sense of perspective, but he did later clarify his remarks to say that janitors and firemen did not deserve to die. It is interesting that apparently the police and Port Authority workers did deserve their deaths.

  39. Olly says:

Disregarding the last five comments:Yuppy schmucks who make their living off of liquidating human lives around the world don’t neccesarily deserve to die in a fiery explosion ala 911, but who’s going to be honest about the state of the world and still blame somebody for taking them out?Um, me? In fact, I would venture to say, most people.

Seriously, it’s nice of you to concede that they didn’t necessarily deserve to die in a fiery explosion, but this is still pretty dire stuff. If you honestly believe that the businesses in the WTC were engaged in “liquidating human lives around the world” then I’m not sure we have anything constructive to say to each other. Either you’re a nihilist or I’m missing some specific animus you have against (for instance) janitors.

    But thanks for stopping by.

  40. Tyler says:

Well, even when I’m wasted I have the good sense to spell check my stuff … I’m looking in your direction, Andy D.

  41. Timothy says:

That’s awfully coherent for being wasted, I’m impressed.

  42. Tyler says:

Man, I was wasted when I wrote that. My apologies.

  43. Timothy says:

Don’t feed the trolls, Tyler. It gives them power, the power to annoy.

  44. Tyler says:

Golly, not only is “mdog” eloquent, but he (she?) is also filled with observations that would make us mere mortals weep.

I have only this to say to “mdog”: My best friend is in the Marines as a Lieutenant, and I’m sure he would take your opinions very, very seriously. No, seriously, he’s very concerned about “just following orders”. Would you like to meet him? You guys can talk about “yuppy schmucks”. He’ll be in town on Saturday. Don’t worry, he won’t follow my order to kick your ass, you fucking troll.

    We have your IP.

    Cheers.

  45. M-Dog says:

wow. My alter ego is bitter.

  46. troll says:

Where do you draw the line? Are soldiers who are “just following orders” innocent? Yuppy schmucks who make their living off of liquidating human lives around the world don’t neccesarily deserve to die in a fiery explosion ala 911, but who’s going to be honest about the state of the world and still blame somebody for taking them out? (Fuck the usa, right back to chris columbus.)

  47. Olly says:

I’m sure he defends his position quite eloquently, “mdog”, but it is irredeemably silly nevertheless. Churchill, in his need to compare everything to the Nazis, not only obviates whatever point he may have had initially, but comes perilously close to the dark place where crazy people like Daivd Icke live. Well, really. Let’s get a grip here, shall we? True enough, [the WTC victims] were civilians of a sort. But innocent? Gimme a break. They formed a technocratic corps at the very heart of America’s global financial empire the “mighty engine of profit” to which the military dimension of U.S. policy has always been enslaved and they did so both willingly and knowingly.Meh. Even Marilyn Manson circa 1996 would have written this off as being too obvious.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying he should be fired. (Not for being the author of the piece I linked to, at any rate; there are other issues for the poor dear to deal with.) I just think, judging by his work, that he’s an asshole.

  48. Ian says:

I’m just glad that someone besides me knows what Godwin’s Law is. I mentioned it once in a discussion after a classmate compared the Israelis (and Bush) to Nazis.

I was responded to with blank, empty stares. “Godwin’s Law? Is that in the torah or something?”

  49. troll says:

Actually, Churchill defends his position quite well, and makes a number of other very important points at this talk he gave last week at CU, where he’s a prof:
