Neighbors to Close
D’oh:
The home of the popular drag show “Shebang” will be closing on Feb. 28. The bar, Neighbors Bar and Bistro, has been open for nine or 10 years, owner Cindy Hill said. Hill said the building was sold, and the new owner plans to open a new restaurant.
Hill said she is currently not planning on relocating.
Until its final day, Neighbors will continue to hold “Shebang” on Friday nights at 10 p.m.
I’m quite surprised the owner isn’t considering relocating. Most distressingly, this means I’ll never be able to hear “some of my very best friends visit Neighbors!” again.
Hooray! I was right. In your face, space coyote!
Tacos. Neighbors. The irony.
I still miss that Taco Time. It was my parent’s favorite Taco Time when I was a kid. Neighbor’s is deffinitely in the old McDonalds that was next door.
As a local. Taco Time occupied what was once a Taco Bell. It is now occupied by the pasta place. It was indeed a McDonalds that occupied the building that now houses Neighbor’s.
I think Neighbor’s was an Arctic Circle or something back in the misty times when I was a freshman here. Not a Taco Time, anyway.
Hmmmm, I guess you’re right now that I come to think of it. Neighbor’s has been in business for 10+ years yet I definitely remember the Taco Time being there about four years ago.
You might be wrong about that. The place next door, which is now an Indian restaurant if memory serves, was the Taco Time. Neighbor’s was always Neighbors while I was at U of O but the locals told me in its prior life it had been a McDonald’s. Compare the two buildings. The restaurant looks like a Mexican fast food joint while Neighbor’s design harkens back to the average Golden Arches circa 1980.
Ryan – Yup.
If I recall correctly, Neighbors was the one that took over the old Taco Time on Villard, right?
Huh. Seattle also hosts a bar named Neighbors with, I presume, a similar atmosphere and clientele. I don’t think this one is closing.
So next time you’re feeling distressed, tell those friends to head to Capitol Hill.
