Two More Tickets Enter Exec Race, Axelrod to Sit Out

Two more tickets have filed documents with the ASUO elections coordinator, and entered the race for executive. This brings the total number of candidacies to four.

ASUO Senate Vice President Jonathan Rosenberg has announced his candidacy, running with Avital Ostfield as his pick for vice president. Also filing for candidacy today was the ticket of ASUO Senate President Sara Hamilton and Senator Athan Papailiou, whose facebook profile is not currently accessible. These two candidacies mark the entry of several ASUO heavy hitters into the race, significantly raising the stakes for all concerned.

In other news, President Jared Axelrod has announced that he will not seek re-election. He has declared is intention to remain neutral in the upcoming election cycle, and has said that he is (understandably) thrilled to not have to worry about the stresses of another campaign.

  1. Niedermeyer says:

Forgive me for making assumptions about that campaign… they don’t really talk to us, and all I’ve read in the Emerald thus far are vague platitudes.

I think it is common understanding that Emily wants to inherit the “Jared coalition” (aka Ms. Rees), which would be impossible (?) if Jared had ran. On the other hand, it is also my understanding that the coalition is no longer the unified force it once was… but I might be wrong.

  2. Ali says:

Anyone who knows anything about ASUO politics or Emily and Sun’s campaign would know that their decision to run could not have had less to do with Jared’s intentions. Emily being a member of “Jared’s staff for goodness sake” seems to be mostly cooincidental — she didn’t have a problem running aginst him last year, right?

  3. Niedermeyer says:

Jacque has it… if anyone was going to not run because they weren’t sure about Jared, it would be Emily and Sun, no? But they announced several days before Jared officially announced that he wouldn’t run again. How about them apples?

  4. Jacque says:

lol I hear you on that because people DO lie. It is possible that they only decided to run becuase of Jared but the assumption could be made about any other candidate: Emily is a member of Jared’s staff for goodness sake so would she have run if he had…? Probably not. I guess maybe I don’t like to think that one person has that much control over who does and does not enter an election. AND If you know some things then out with it Student we all like the free flow of information and ideas here… I’ll go back to one of my other posts, I love it when people post anonymously and then assume that thier statements are going to be validated (ahem Doom…) if you have something to say the say it loud and say it proud (or just talk quietly and no one will listen…?)

  5. A Student says:

I would agree, Jacque. But similar to Doom, I know some things too. How about asking Sara or Jonathan? Maybe they’ll lie and say they were planning on running all along, but who knows for sure? Themselves, God, and Sudsy, I suppose…

  6. Jacque says:

Student: That’s why I said “try,” you might know something I don’t and that is what I wanted to get at. Your theory would make sense to me and had I not known that Jonathan and Sara were both excited to run and were thinking about running with or without Jared in the race I likely would have bought into it. Everyone has their theories but if they are based on faulty perceptions of people or facts then they can’t really hold up…right?

  7. Doomscheissah says:

    Student:

Unfortunate, your theory doesn’t hold up, knowing what I know.

  8. Niedermeyer says:

If Jared hadn’t come out with the Career Center announcement, he wouldn’t have won anyway, and both announcements came out the same day. Whatever, your theory isn’t really based on the issues, so unless you want to flesh it out, it’s not that relevant.

  9. A Student says:

    Thats why I said “probably”…
But I think my theory makes some sense. Think about it: Neither Sara nor Jonathan filed until AFTER Jared came out and said he wasn’t running. Plus, it seems like they are smart enough to not get into a race with an incumbent. Would anyone disagree?

  10. Jacque says:

Actually, they have been both talking about running for quite a while, even when it was suspected that Jared might run again. Knowing them personally, they both would have likely run either way with the right running mate, which I think that they both have. I wish them both well in this campaign. (Read: I love it when people try to speak on the motivations of people that they don’t know!)

  11. A Student says:

Sara and Jonathan probably only entered because they found out that Jared wasn’t running.

  12. Toby says:

All I remember is Athan changing his votes last year numerous times so he didn’t make people “mad”, lol

  13. Toby says:

There has to be someone else out there. Then again, all the good canidates are too smart to run for ASUO Exec.

  14. Anthony says:

    man the ASUO sucks…
