Random Thought
Every now and again on the UO campus there’s an “against patriarchy” conference. I’m sure you can guess how deliciously stupid it is. I was thinking this morning about the pending trade war with China, and that it might be neat for somebody (decidedly not me) to organize an Against Autarky conference. Firstly, nobody will get it so there might be relatively few protesters. Secondly, maybe it would get some accidental donations from the anti-autism folks.

Are you calling China an autarky? Also, where does the “booze” come in here, or am I wrong to ask?

It’s very sad, you know? Why must we suppose economies some are closed. I mean how are you suppose to go off on a rant about the inflation rate or currency speculation when all you have is output and the unemployment-rate, or government spending and taxes. With open economies we can actually point fingers at other countries and kill people with our military industrial complex. JFK under stood this, and that’s why cuba killed him.
Danimal: No, I’m saying that it looks like we’re going to get into one of them there trade wars with China soon over something stupid, and that there should be anti-autarky protests because autarky sucks a big pink one. I think the US could probably avert such a thing by, I dunno, not putting up trade barriers.
