Ask Not What You Can Do For Your Country…

… because your country’s going to tell you what to do, where to do it, and what time to report for duty, citizen.

I’d like to use this space to make Alex Conley aware of great opportunities like this, this, and this. All of these offer excellent volunteering opportunities that don’t require the creation of yet another vast and inertial government bureaucracy that uses millions of taxpayer dollars for the express purpose of violating citizens’ freedom of conscience by forcing them to labor on government projects under penalty of law.

Who wants to bet that all this enthusiasm for mandatory volunteerism will vanish the next time a Republican is in the White House?

  1. […] It seems somewhat ironic that he’s making the call for rational argumentation considering some of his past editorials that have been brought up here. […]

I wouldn’t take that bet. I will say that I’m concerned as a Republican that the Dems are using the network created by Obama’s campaign to organize these volunteers. Hell, I haven’t heard a peep out of the local Republican party since 4 November. Their base is still well organized and energized, and is actually putting their muscle (as they probably have very little money) where their mouth is.

My hope is that within a month of the inauguration, the fanfare will be over, reality will have set in–that this is actually Clinton II–and that they will finally feel the pain of their betrayal. Then they’ll learn there’s a difference between rhetoric and leadership and look closer at their candidates next time

And be replaced by enthusiasm for mandatory military service?
