Tinnitus

sarah-palin

Only you can prevent me from raping your ears.

Mrs. Opportunity is at it again, causing mounds upon mounds of soundbytes to ooze from various radio and television news talkshow hosts. It’s already abundantly clear that no one should ever listen to what this woman says, but somehow she still gains national spotlight because she has, yet again, failed to understand a fundamental element of national policy.

Now the last few days I’ve had to watch cable news shows, Jon Stewart and others absolutely destroy Palin’s asinine remarks from her Facebook page. Why hasn’t anyone taken then hint yet that Palin is, by all accounts, meaningless?

Her contribution to American politics was, at best, limited during her VP run. Now that she’s resigned from her Governor’s post she has absolutely zero legitimacy as a nationally recognized commentator on American politics. Let’s put this out there one more time: Sarah Palin is not an important national figure. She’s a joke, a lame-duck Governor from a state with about as many people as Portland.

For people like Sean Hannity and Jon Stewart to be discussing her opinion shows their inability to judge what and who should be relevant on a national scale.

  1. Vincent says:

Should I address my reply to “Handle Grant” or “Demi Sodds”? You’re both posting from the same IP address, is the thing, so I want to avoid confusion.

Anyways, back to the food shelter.

  2. Vincent's Chum - Handle Grant says:

Now I finally have a friend, Vincent, you have changed my life with your perspective.

I feel closer to you than anyone else in my life now. With a name like Handle it’s hard to make friends.

I guess what I would like to know is if you, Vincent will take me, Handle Grant as your new life partner! Please, think about it, chum.

  3. Miles Rost says:

Upinak, as a name, sounds very…Eskimo-ish.

May have to ask Guy Simmons about that.

  4. Vincent says:

I got so mad by the way you fucks try and make Americans look dumb.

I don’t think we made anyone do anything they weren’t already going to do, chum.

  5. Thunderlove says:

This is a blog from a journal of opinion on campus, it does have conservative and libertarian leanings and ideals but we do not present ourselves as anything we are not.
Also i can not take any one who posts under the name upinak seriously and this is coming from someone named Thunderlove.
ps since you came up with penis wrinkle there is some respect of mine left of upinak.

I guess sarah paplin has a meaning and that meaning is pageviews

  6. Handle Grant says:

    Hello,

may I weigh in on this crap? I think all you liberals should go to liberal court (food shelter) to figure this bullshit out. I got so mad by the way you fucks try and make Americans look dumb.

    God Bless America,

    handle grant

  7. EdFab says:

Just out of curiosity, was this diatribe posted before or after you learned that the Senate Finance Committee had removed (from the healthcare reform bill) language that provided for end-of-life counseling?

For your sake (and for the sake of any people who rely on you for advice), I’m hoping it was before.

  8. Miles Rost says:

Let this be a lesson to anyone:

If you write about Sarah Palin, you will get traffic. Just ask AllahPundit over at Hot Air.

  9. Betz says:

    “Look penis wrinkle…” … FTW!

  10. T says:

WRITING IN ALL CAPS MAKES YOUR POINTS MORE EFFECTIVE.

  11. CJ Ciaramella says:

Oh wow, this has to be one of the best OC comment threads ever. There’ve been a few better ones, but this is at least top five material.

  12. Timothy says:

If you’re not going to learn to read, you should really stay off of the internet.

  13. Dick says:

Serious question: Is the commentator supposed to be libertarian or conservative?

This thing looks like it should be in the Student Voice.

If the magazine is supposed to be representing those principles then why are bleeding heart liberals like these guys Dane and Vince in charge of the operation. Seems like a sabatoge to make conservatives look like ignorant goofballs that hate themselves. If you guys are going to represent the democratic party than please do not present yourselves as libertarian, republican, conservative.

  14. Vincent says:

    Also, it’s “grammar,” Betz.

  15. Vincent says:

We shouldn’t have to legalize pot — it’s in the Constitution. Did you know like… half the Founding Fathers grew hemp?

  16. Betz says:

Lol @ Upinak (aka ‘Obvious Troll’) and Frank … you guys are jokes. Just reading your last post, I could imagine you sitting, hunched over at your computer, seething with so much rage that you do not have time to correct your grammer or punctuation (or make a point, for that matter).

Remember kids … obvious troll is obvious.

  17. Chris says:

If I wanted this, I would read that crap they make in the EMU. Yeah? Student insurgent eh? Why wouldn’t you post what Obama care will do for students, hmm?

This sucks, I’m not paying my student fees for this junk am I? Where is the diversity of ideas when you have libertarians wanting nationalized health care? That is no libertarian view and Bob Barr now wants to poop on you both. Shame. SP Prez 2012!!!

  18. Frank says:

What’s your problem Dane, whoever the he’ll you are you dirty drug addict liberal nutbug posting as a conservative on what used to be a conservative/libertarian website. Not one fucking comment from you guys on the health care debate beside Sarah Palin trash? Well I would say this to you people, hell no. U of O conservatives should go elsewhere!

You’ll probably censor me, but I think the OC should be dissolved. Alums, like myself, should be offended by the lack of material in this fucking post. Sarah Palin? Why now and five days late? Dane sounds like the name of some punk ass u of o kid who thinks he is an independent when at best he is a conservative democrat. Do I care what SP says on this issue, fuck no, but to be honest I care less about your trashy posts.

  19. Timothy says:

Vince – You are my hero.

  20. upinak says:

Look penis wrinkle. If you can’t figure out that Healthcare and Education are NOT inthe Constitution, due to you ill informed schools in which you should have learn in freaking 5 th grade. I am not sure that is my problem.

You are NOT a constitutionalist. You are also NOT a libertarian, unless you are just for the simple fact of being able legalize pot. You are a feaking Moderate liberal and your choice for president has nothing to be desired.

I asked you a straight OUT question, which it is obvious that you can not answer as you KNOW there is no standing in the Constitution for Healthcare OR Education.

Pretty freaking pathetic. You are just an obama bot, nothing more.

It is obvious, I have hurt your “feelers”. Poor little liberal. All you could have said is, you’re right there is nothing in the constitutuion that states it is a right to have healthcare and education. But no you had to go there. The whole Point of the constitution was for those who wanted freedom, to have it. The freemdom of CHOICE.

Wow, what a concept. Have a nice day… stay out of the water.

  21. Vincent says:

Clearly you’re no Constitutional scholar if you’re trying to argue that the Constitution inherently limits the power of the Federal Government.

It’s very clear that, according to the Constitution, any power not explicitly given to the States is granted to the Federal Government! The whole point of the Constitution is to make sure that this country has a strong central government that provides for any need that any citizen might have. That’s why the Founding Fathers made sure that free health care, a cradle-to-grave social safety net, and subsidized education through the Doctoral level were enshrined in the most important document in these United States! Why else would they have included a Federal income tax since day one?

Clearly you need to do a little more reading, chum.

  22. upinak says:

Healthcare is not a right. It is a priviledge. It also should be something in which the individual and the “family” of that indivdual needs. NOT what the Government mandates.

And PLEASE show me where healthcare is in the Constitution.

LOL But since, Healthcare is NOT in the Constiution and neither is education, I would love to be proven wrong.

    *sighs*

  23. Vincent says:

As a wannabe libertarian, I believe that national healthcare is a moral imperative and a fundamental right. Look it up in the Constitution, man.

  24. upinak says:

LMFAO @ Vincent the wannabe libertarian.

Chum.. interesting. I wasn’t fishing for anything in particular. Just stating the obvious. And yes I have been reading the blog off and on for a little while. Pretty sad.. as the last time I traveled through Oregon was a few years ago and the people haven’t changed. Nor have the bloggers it seems. How about taking your head out of the systems ass before that methane gets to you.

BTW it is Palination…. or maybe you can’t spell? But then I doubt you stayed long enough to get the jist of my blog with over 10 guest bloggers who obviously know a little more about politics then you.

With that said. How do you”feel” about Obamacare? Or are you just going to be a whiner saying that everyone should have it?

  25. Vincent says:

I’m not entirely sure what you’re on about, chum, but I’d suggest (a) re-reading this post; (b) taking the time to read other posts on this blog so you have some idea what our politics are, in general; (c) re-thinking your strategy of countering accusations that rank-and-file Republicans are increasingly being portrayed and perceived as idiots and boors by acting like an idiot and a boor.

Alternately: d) you could fuck right off back to “The Palin Nation”.

  26. upinak says:

Are people in Oregon really this stupid?

Do you believe everything you watch on TV? Do you actually sit down and read, or better yet, research when the government is telling you it is good for you and come to find out… opps, it isn’t!

Dang, and then to come out with something like saying Sean Hannity And Rush shouldn’t comment on what Sarah Palin said about the obama healthcare bill, but yet John Stewart of all the freaking losers in the world, can try to quash her comment?

Please, for the love of all. Stop while You are ahead. You are truely showing how asinine you truely are. Ignorant really isn’t the word I could use for you.

Oregon has taken the road, much like California did, and failing just as California is doing. I wonder how many people IN Oregon are actually from there orginal and not implants from California.

Keep it up there with that philosophy of give and take. Too bad Oregon didn’t have a Governor who actually cared about the State and the Citizens.

  27. Vincent says:

I saw the bulk of that conversation and I think you’re rather understating the argument you were making.

But that’s neither here nor there and the thread is gone, so it’s probably best to lie it lie, hm?

  28. Curtis says:

    “She

  29. Vincent says:

Of course, Jon Stewart’s “in comedy,” though I think it’s safe to say that his “comedy” deliberately serves a particular agenda.

Calling Jon Stewart “just a comedian” is like calling Michael Moore “just a filmmaker,” Rush Limbaugh “just a talk show host,” or Toby Keith “just a country and western musician.”

In any case, I disagree with Dane. Palin’s not, unfortunately, meaningless and irrelevant. She’s wildly popular among Republican voters in large part because she’s more charismatic than… well, just about any other Republican on the national scene. Of course, she also tends to overplay her “folksy charm”, which leads to rambling speeches like the one she gave announcing her resignation: a speech that was basically a string of exceedingly forced “normal folk” slogans interspersed with “rural” signifiers.

And that’s to say nothing of this “death panels” stuff.

Her bizarre and outrageous public statements combined with her popularity make it easy for the media to not-so-subtly conflate her with Republicans, conservatives, and everyone else who’s not playing for Team Blue. The “birther” bunch has the same effect.

The problem with Sarah Palin is not that she’s stupid, it’s that she fancies herself much smarter than she actually is and keeps trying to beat the media at its own game, which is a game she’s ill-equipped to even play.

  30. C.T. Behemoth says:

Jon Stewart is in comedy. Not touching Palin would be stupid, right? You don’t have to change anything she says…like SNL’s skit where all they did was re-read her speech.
