“O”SPIRG Brands Itself

OSPIRG Oregon

Apparently OSPIRG has been using the University of Oregon’s “O” symbol to help brand themselves among University of Oregon students.

The use of the symbol is undoubtedly an infringement upon the University of Oregon’s trademark, especially if OSPIRG is using it to solicit donations.

More importantly, the “O” is equated, especially in the malleable minds of young freshmen, with everything that is part of the University of Oregon. An outside group using the symbol for recruitment purposes immediately garners the respect and weight that symbol brings to the table. Since OSPIRG is not part of this university, OSPIRG’s usage of the “O” is incredibly deceptive.

This is just another offense in the long line of morally-vague decisions made by OSPIRG and its constituents. One wonders if the University will step up and stop the group’s marketing plan by mandating a cease-and-desist regarding the “O”.

Anything else should be considered an indirect endorsement of OSPIRG by the University.

    Deb Frisch? Is that you?

  3. nike urbansim duk says:

What do Autzen and Hayward have to do with energy policy ? That is easy………..”green” sharkitects are masterplanning and expanding both facilities. What does “green” mean ? It means they are full of $h%! and laundering Duckbucks to the UO Foundation.

  4. nike urbansim duk says:

Oh nO ! The hot O brand may be cooled due to all the OSPIGG efforts to combat global warming. I have heard next term OSPIGG is going to launch a war against a empty paper bag. And the term after that will be a grassroots campaign to teach students to speak effectively to potted plants.

  5. Vincent says:

Anyways, dudes. If you Google “hesingswithfrogs”, you’ll see this guy is a professional forum troll. You’ve been had. Time to move on.

  6. Vincent says:

I’m sure we’re all quaking in our jackboots.

  7. Evil Rocks says:

    go go go go go

  8. hesingswithfrogs says:

Let’s see. So far I’ve emailed the U of O president, the ASUO, the campus Bias Response Team, the Multicultural Center, Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity, and the the School of Journalism & Communication Dean. My guess is that at least one of them will recognize the blatant racist symbolism being employed by the Oregon Commentator. BTW, do you guys have any US Bank money. Do you still think your article is just about trademarks?

  9. Vincent says:

    [face in palm]

  10. Carly says:

Do I think the rest of the world is stupid, hesingswithfrogs? No, not the whole world, but you? Yes, I definitely think that you are.

  11. CJ says:

    Don’t feed the trolls.

  12. Dane says:

Do you think the rest of the world is stupid? The news cycle has been saturated with Republican ire for Obama

  13. hesingswithfrogs says:

Do you think the rest of the world is stupid? The news cycle has been saturated with Republican ire for Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize. You post a satire about the Nobel Peace Prize and your and your organization’s perceived “reduced value” because of its award to Obama by creating your own Nobel Peace Prizes for black stereotypes and mockingly award them to yourself. And you think there’s no racism there? You might as well post art of monkey’s with Obama’s name on it! Quit denying it Dane and Drew. You ARE racists.

  14. Dane says:

    “OMG

  15. Drew Cattermole says:

I think hesingswithfrogs was the person who found this website by searching defacation porn on google

  16. Dane says:

I’m giving us a self-congratulatory award. We haven’t even put out our second issue yet and we’ve already been called “racist” by someone too lazy to formulate a proper argument to add something meaningful to the conversation.

Abstract interpretations by blatantly partisan spectators?

    Welcome, crazies.

  17. hesingswithfrogs says:

OMG … this place is run by a bunch of racist twirps! Here’s another post by “Drew” about this site’s “Editor in Chief”

  18. PUDDLES THE ENFORCER says:

I’m putting the over/under on the cease and desist letter to OSPIRG at two days. One to draft the letter and one for general counsel to look it over.

The Athletic Department kind of takes its brand seriously, if you haven’t noticed.

  19. hesingswithfrogs says:

I should probably put “Conservative” in quotes since it really doesn’t have much to do with conservative principles or conservation any more. Drill baby drill, right?

  20. hesingswithfrogs says:

I thought all you conservatives think that all lawsuits are “frivolous” and a thousand lawyers at the bottom of the sea is “a good start?” Conservative hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me!

  21. Miles Rost says:

If I were a lawyer with the university, I’d sue their asses.

    And bankrupt their organization.

  22. Ossie says:

I think his true concern is the pigeonholing of student minds into droves of bandwagon mentalities … or that might just be me. What does Autzen and Hayward Field have to do with energy policy? And why is the hand giving a tugger to the turbine? Also, how is it that OSPIRG has an intern class for course credit called “Building Student Power: The Applied History of Student Activism?”

  23. Vincent says:

    ^ True believer.

  24. hesingswithfrogs says:

    !!!Bah Humbug!!!!

According to the Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group (OSPIRG) website, which features the symbol, they are “partnering with the U of O, Cascade Climate Network, Sierra Student Coalition, and Energy Action Coalition to bring Powershift West 2009 to the U of O, November 6-8.

Powershift 09, Power Shift ’09, a project of the Energy Action Coaltion, is a campaign fueled by young people across the country to DEMAND BOLD ACTION on CLIMATE AND ENERGY in 2009. They are urging President Obama and the Congress to pass a strong and comprehensive climate and energy plan by December that creates millions of new jobs, ends our dependence on dirty energy, brings America lasting security and reduces harmful global warming pollution.

My guess is the use of the “O” is not your true concern. My guess is that you are a dirty industrialist heavily invested in the failing status quo and you don’t want a comprehensive climate and energy plan that will create millions of new jobs, end our dependence on dirty energy, bring America lasting security, and reduce harmful global warming pollution.

  25. Vincent says:

    Wow, that’s pretty dodgy.
