ASUO Senate meeting live…again

Also, there are actually plans for two UO buildings in the research park soon. In 2006 UO got 19.75 million in bonding authority for a nano-lab (dept. of defense research) on the millrace. UO is supposed to start construction next summer but riverfront politics is looking pretty dicey right now. The site for the second proposed RRP building is close to the millrace on the South side of the tracks. As far as that meeting cancellation goes, I was surprised to see Christine pulling together a second dorm meeting so quickly. Seeing a article come out about this conflict may have changed something ? The pictures at the meeting sure look like three dorms-not one. There is a Fairmount Association meeting on November 17th at 7:00 pm at the Laurelwood Golf Course meeting room. There may be a chance of some type of vote on that dorm then. To get more on what is going on with this one guy who will know is Greg Rickoff. He is a UO PR guy. Tell him Zach told you to hunt him down and that you want all the facts on the dorm negotiations, pronto. You might have to buy him a beer first but he knows what is up I am sure. So, about the cancellation…I think it just reflects that the UO knows it is in trouble. Quickly trying to do something but not sure what. Any level of cooperation by UO now could set a precedent for UO land use conduct that they would not want to have to extend to others (like the Fairmount neighbors) in the future. They already changed the site and time line for this dorm(s) once. If you can, publish a email address in the Emerald so that anyone with concerns about the dorm can forward something to the UO planning office that will be sent to all the Planning Committee members. The dean of the Honors College should have some interesting views on this because it is, after all, a Honors College “themed” dorm.

  2. What do you make of the meeting cancellation, Zach?

Now that the old Duck has been sent out to pasture certain other Ducklings seem to be taking over. He can rename a bridge overnight but he can prop up the failed Riverfront Research Park mirage anymore. I expect Diane Wiley is a bit tired of this after defending the RRP mess for decades. In the future you should consider asking the old Duck about why and how his public/private riverfront planning racket has hit a wall (there were no survivors). And then ask Dave about his exciting new Fairmount dormwars. And killing Rudolph in the Portland sign conflict….

It’s okay. I was joking, too. I expect the t-shirt on my desk post-haste, or else I’ll be forced to write the article, “Frohnmayer: A magnanimous leader and tender lover.”

Was supposed to be a joke. You did not get it. Oh well.

  6. CJ says:

Damn it, Zach. I can’t accept gifts from sources in exchange for favorable coverage. That whole “ethics” thing or something, you know?

Also, an article will be coming out tomorrow on the CPC meeting.

Thanks. I did not mean that in any harsh way, just trying to clarify why I was lurking. Hope you or someone else in the office can put together some kind of article updating people about that second CPC meeting and what it is about. I am going to leave CJ a antiNike T-shirt soon at the Emerald so I am expecting some articles that really beat the hell out of the university for a week or two.

  8. Thurs Nov. 19, Bean West Conference Room, 3:30-5 p.m.

About this twitterimg or whatever the fuck it is…… I went to the meeting to watch not speak. I did not leave because someone would not let me speak. I left because I was out of cigarettes. I knew the riverfront thing would get through the senate. If I spoke to it at that meeting it would have probably undermined the chances of support for it. The student senate is not off the hook yet. I am going to be harping on them to assemble a subcommittee for evaluating feral campus planning schemes. The drone-like campus planning committee had a real meltdown this week with the 75 million dollar Honors College theme dorm site. I am a bit surprised there is nothing in the news about that. The CPC will continue the discussion/conflict next week. I will post the time and place of that meeting here later.
