Lariviere agrees to meet with Oregon Commentator

I have a coffee meeting with President Lariviere on April 7th.

If you have anything you’d like me to say/ask, either leave a comment here or email me at editor[at]oregoncommentator[dot]com.

  1. Haskin says:

ASK HIM if he wants to party with us on the party bus? Also, if he could get Phil Knight to foot the bill that would be quite Lovely.

  2. G says:

Rub his shiny bald head and ask it why he canceled on meeting with the OC the summer he came to office.

  3. CJ says:

If you could have a million dollars a month for the rest of your life, but you had to have a penis for a nose (and you couldn’t get it, like, surgically removed or anything) … would you do it?

  4. nike urbanized duk says:

What scared you away from the first two reporters who had appointments to interview you ? Do you think my questions will be any less vicious than the ones they were going to ask ? Why do you need to approve questions so far in advance before an interview ? Do you need that much time to formulate a answer ? Why is Mike Eyster now running LTD (into the ground) and still working at UO ? Is it time to throw him under the (EMX) bus yet ? How are all the ducklings going to park next to the new dorm for rich students only when Matt Court and the athletes only lots already gobbled every extra spot ? Do you have any plans to do a up to date seismic study (and possible retrofitting) of buildings on the UO campus ? Estimates suggest the deferred maintenance backlog is over 200 million. The maintenance backlog at the athletic department is unknown. Does it really make sense for UO to own the Baker Center downtown ? DPS has to guard the building. How about dozing it for a 10 story towering dorm for rich Ducklings at the site ? Borrow a zillion duck bucks for it ? No bid contract to Nike’s architect ! He designed the gleaming John Ross condo tower in the OHSU South Waterfront boondoggle. We can also put the UO Foundation in some stealth offices underneath the underground parking below the new building. All night duck buck laundromat

  5. Rev. Ben says:

Ask him to explain the difference between a fedora and a trilby.

  6. Jane Charlotte says:

Pornhub or porntube? How about girl on girl? I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!!!

  7. Fizzle T. Bizzle says:

    Lauren says: “boxers or briefs?”

Also, “how young would you date?”

  8. Yo, answer to how long he’s staying is a couple more years. He said that it’s best if a President stays for 6-8 years at my coffee date.

  9. Leland says:

Who was Leland Stanford Junior, and what did he do besides die of typhoid in Italy at 16?

  10. Anon says:

What role did Phil Knight play in his becoming president?

What role did Knight play in the plan to privatize the UO?

Who was Matthew Knight and, other than drowning in a scuba diving accident, what did he do to get a $200,000,000 public building named after him?

  11. atthecoast says:

Congratulations on the meeting, and (finally) good decision by Pres. Lariviere. This meeting has not actually been described as an interview; however, asking questions and receiving answers would point to it being an interview. I think it would be informative to understand the change of heart, if in fact that is the stimulus to the Pres. agreeing to the meeting. It really does not seem plausible that he just could not stand the “heat” resonating from comments regarding the series of events including one denial after another and ultimately producing some rather bad PR after his appearance in a J class. I really just want to know, honestly, why did he change his mind and course of action? I believe that may be the most informative of all questions to be answered. 🙂 If, in fact, a straightforward answer is forthcoming.

  12. ellen says:

I like the athletic/academic donations and transparency questions above. Good work locking him into an interview. Maybe you should chide him on his “sophomoric” comment, too.

  13. C.T. Behemoth says:

Given what you’ve had to deal with since coming into your position, when are you planning on leaving?

What is your opinion on the disproportionate increases in administrative positions and salaries at the University of Oregon and across the nation?

There are several people that the U of O is still paying healthy salaries too, but the work that they do as well as their purpose in general is a mystery. Why are they being paid so much and when do you think they can finally be let go, especially given the increases in administrative positions at the U of O?

The Green Bay Packers are owned by the community rather than by one or two owners. Given that the U of O is still considered a public university, why is there a widely reported reluctance to have complete transparency? The Packers won the Super Bowl last year and are positioned to do very well into the future. They even made a healthy profit given the economic downturn. Why can’t the U of O emulate the transparency demanded by their shareholders and take a shot at that sort of success and universal public support?

If you could give yourself a nickname, what would it be?

When do you foresee the financial focus on athletics giving way to a shred of focus on academics? Building on that, why is the U of O so reluctant to reform contributions to the UO Foundation? For example, many universities mandate that 1% of contributions to the athletic program are given to academics. This would be easy to do and contributors would be able to give to a broader spectrum of the university. This might also cut down on the alienation of academics at universities such as ours where the perception (reality) is that athletics far outweigh the importance of academics.

What do you think is the most pressing need at the U of O that isn’t being planned for or funded at the moment?

  14. C.W. Keating says:

    1. How much will tuition go up next year? (obvious question)
    2. How will DPS and campus security enforce the smoking ban?
    3. Where do you get your hats and are you willing to sell any?
    4. Is there any plan to create more parking spaces on campus?
    5. Amelie Rousseau’s hair: frightened chickadee or horny peacock?

    That is all.
