The Oregon Commentator: offensive, libelous, etc.
So Emi Koyama, the “activist and writer” I referenced in my last post about the Student Insurgent, has written an open letter to me and the Commentator regarding my characterization of her as an advocate for sex trafficking. Apparently, she is not. Her letter can be found here.
The focus of my post was not meant to be on Emi Koyama, but was meant to make fun of the Insurgent. Maybe not the classiest of moves, but whatever. She is right: I did not attend her presentation, and perhaps it was rash of me to jump to such conclusions about her standpoint. According to Ms. Koyama, she is not an advocate for sex trafficking, so there you go.
I assume her letter was sent to our editor’s account, which I no longer have access to, but if she’s out there reading, please respond to the post with your email address and I will send you an email. I’m very curious to talk to you about your viewpoint.
(And, for the record, I am no longer editor-in-chief of the OC, I am the blog editor.)
Dude, stop asking me to do inappropriate things on facebook. Love always, Gsim.
Will the real Gsim please stand up?
The above Gsim is a filthy impostor. Any true comment of mine would be even more sophomoric and way more inflammatory than that one.
http://eminism.org is a breath of fresh air. Emi thinks for herself, unlike the pc campus types.
The important thing here is the flyer that got lumped in with the Insurgent silliness.
The best line on the flyer? “Pissed? DO SOMETHING. E-mail the Dean and tell him.”
At which point, the Dean will tell you, “I have nothing to to with the funding of this organization nor does my position as Dean of the University of Oregon have any overarching scope to, on any terms, violate the tenants of the University’s student government. As a student-funded organization in full compliance with ASUO standards, the Oregon Commentator’s funding is fully dependent on the student body and their decisions to create an active discussion on campus.
Also, fuck off.”
I appreciate your retraction (though it would be nice if you could add a clarification to the original post), and I stand corrected about your position as the former rather than current Editor-in-Chief. My email address is emi AT eminism DOT org and I welcome conversations across and beyond the political aisles, which we desperately need for the health of our deliberative democracy.
