Empty Campus Day tomorrow! WOo!

The GTFF is holding an “Empty Campus Day” tomorrow in a “show of solidarity” before it goes into arbitration with the University. GTF will teach their classes at off-campus locations such as Lane Community College (which is about 4 miles from campus and a 20-minute bus ride). The Emerald editorial board has a response here.

What does this mean for the undergrads? Well, for my brother it means that all but one of his GTF-taught classes are canceled for tomorrow and the uncanceled class will be taught on campus. So much for solidarity.

Classes at LCC? When I was visiting Yale last summer, there was some sort of union strike and I sat in on a class being taught in a bar, for christ’s sake. Are you guys gonna let some preppy ivy-league bitches have class in a bar while y’all drive down to Lane “Night Classes for Strippers and Divorcees Trying to Improve Their Lives While Making the Rest of Us Really Depressed” Community College?

“Empty Campus Day”? Sounds a lot like “Skip Day”. I haven’t heard about one of those since high school.

  3. Olly says:

Sigh. Must run and see Mr. Atkinson off, but will post something about this tomorrow. When I’m working. In my office. On campus. Because Empty Campus Day or no goddamn Empty Campus Day, I have a thesis to finish.
