PF lecturer calls MLK “moral leper and communist dupe”

As I previously reported, the Pacifica Forum held a discussion on Friday titled “Martin Luther King: Communist?” Given the forum’s recent move towards white nationalist conspiracy-mongering, I predicted it would be a smear of the esteemed civil rights leader. Sadly, I was right. Jimmy Marr, a Pacifica Forum regular, opened his lecture, “Martin Luther King: The Man Behind the Media Mask”, thusly:

Look at your calendar. The founder of this country, George Washington does not have a federal holiday in his honor. Thomas Jefferson doesn’t. Abraham Lincoln doesn’t. Neil Armstrong […] doesn’t. What did King accomplish to merit or deserve to be honored above George Washington? Yet every year in January Americans endure the same propaganda blitz when the media go into a kind of almost spastic frenzy of adulation for this so-called Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King.

[…]

But the truth is that he was everything but that and certainly no hero that any American should look up to. To start with, even his name is a fraud.

And he’s just getting started, folks!

Marr went on to claim that the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and King were nothing but a political front for communism. The goal of the civil rights movement, he said, was to incite violence and division, paving the way for the revolution. He claimed King intentionally incited violence wherever he went, and the media ignored it, showing only the bloody reaction to generate sympathy for King. Marr asserted that Jewish communists in the United States held high positions in many civil rights groups and funneled money to them from the USSR.

He spoke rapidly and without pause, brow furrowed, like some sort of awful mash-up of American History X and Zero Punctuation. When he said something particularly crazy, like how the Rothschilds bankrolled most of the civil rights movement, people behind me would go “mm-hmm” and “Yes, that’s right.”

Marr spent a large portion of the lecture talking about King’s “scurrilous conduct.” He claimed King would often use church donations to buy booze and whores, whom he sometimes enjoyed beating. Marr’s primary “evidence” for this were the unreleased FBI wiretaps of King’s motel rooms and quotes from J. Edgar Hoover (quite the upstanding, moral individual himself).

At one point, Marr went off onto a weird tangent about the Mississippi Freedom Summer, which he asserted was an excuse for upper-class Jewish kids to “smoke dope” and have inter-racial sex. Ultimately, he went on, they were “hoping to become authentically black.”

Marr finished his lecture on an appropriately classy note by calling King a “moral leper and communist dupe.”

I, too, have a dream – that the truth about King will finally become known and Americans will begin to suspect the media and the government have propagated a monstrous lie. I want you to start thinking for yourselves; I want you to consider this: What are the forces and motivation behind the controlled media’s active promotion of King? […] What does it tell you about our society when any public criticism of this moral leper and communist dupe is considered grounds for dismissal. What does it tell you about the controlled media when you see how they successfully suppressed the truth and held out a picture of King that can only be described as a colossal lie? You need to think. [Shatner impression] You … desperately need to wake up.

Oh, right. the controlled media. Jews, commies, ZOG, the Illuminati. I keep forgetting that our entire world is run by behind-the-scenes puppetmasters who control and manipulate every piece of information we receive. Silly me. Hey, did you ever think that maybe we all live in a computer simulation run by robot overlords? We wouldn’t even realize it. Oh man … heavy!

However, the coup de grace was during the discussion section when one forum attendee asked Marr if he thought the civil rights movement as a whole was a positive thing. “Not necessarily,” he replied.

To his credit, Orval Etter, the founder and long-time organizer of the Pacifica Forum, correctly identified Marr’s speech as nothing but a flagrant ad hominem attack on King, lacking in any true substance or merit. However, he never seems too upset when his discussion forum veers into anti-Semitic lunacy. I don’t understand why the Pacifica Forum allowed themselves to be overrun by complete assholes in the first place. At the least, can’t they go start a new discussion forum (kind of like the Ancient Mystic Society of No Homers)? While we at the OC are firmly against moral crusading and the stifling of open discussion, I’m really struggling to see the place on campus for a forum full of white nationalists who peddle bald-faced fallacies, none of whom are affiliated with the university.

On the other hand, most people aren’t even aware this kind of thinking exists, so maybe it has some sort of benefit. As I left the meeting, I caught the eyes of two other students who had wandered in on a whim. They were just kind of standing there, wide-eyed and mouths agape. One shook his head and said, “Jesus Christ. What the fuck was that?” Luckily, I had been bracing myself for the crazy; I can’t even imagine what was running through those poor saps’ heads as they sat in a room full of people yelling things like “Evil people used Martin Luther King to destroy the social fabric of our society!”

Boobie: In case it was unclear, I was merely paraphrasing a letter-to-the-editor in the Eugene Weekly, written in defense of the Pacifica Forum. I have long been aware of the cartoonish qualities of the PF. Indeed, their name is something of a caricature in and of itself.

  2. Guy: I have and am awaiting response. Thank you for your concern.

Boobie: I can’t go this week, which is a shame because the forum topic, as declared by Orval Etter, is “Anger.” How about next week?

  3. Boobie says:

Vincent might have you on the inaccuracy bit CJ. I bet if you got to know them better, these dudes would turn out to be even bigger cartoons than you have so far portrayed them.

Shame, you peddler of caricatures you! Shame!

If you’re game for a meeting, don’t worry dude, you don’t gotta go it alone. I’ll get your back. I won’t commit to more than one though.

  4. Guy says:

CJ you gotta call/email that girl up and ask her to buy you some coffee.

  5. Olly says:

Sho: “Jesus Christ. What the fuck was that?”

Yes, Random Guy speaks for many of us.

“To his credit, Orval Etter, the founder and long-time organizer of the Pacifica Forum, correctly identified Marr

Who makes Steve Gutenberg a star?
    We do! We do!

  7. Vincent. says:

Stop peddling your inaccurate caricatures of what the Pacifica Forum is really about! If you REALLY want to know what goes on in the Pacifica Forum, I strongly suggest that you simply attend a meeting!
