The Wait is Over

After a long three month hiatus, the Student Insurgent has finally published another issue.

I was going to propose, for our Hack Attack issue, that we just publish blank space and have a caption asking, “Where were the other publications this year?” But alas (or maybe hooray) they managed to spew out another amazing issue, featuring gems such as:

Regarding Ants

Ants truly use the motto, “e Pluribus Unum,” out of many one.

Next, you’re going to tell me that ants Trust In God, as well, right?

If you want a better world, you could do worse than having ants as role models.
-Brian Kvenvolden is a prisoner of
war (emphasis mine) in the Wisconsin Prison Industrial Complex.

Great, all we need: prisoners telling us to better our world by following ants.

Regarding state aggression

…all this has done is forced it (state aggression) to be covered up with hegemonic words such as “democracy” and “free-market”

Because democracy and free markets are just about as hegemonic as hegemonic or imperial kingdoms.

Regarding protesting

In France (higher education) is 99% free. If you are not dependent on student loans, your parents, a job, or all of the above, imagine the possibilities. If you could easily brush off a term to protest, wouldn’t we see more action?

I’m sure the reason people aren’t protesting is because they all have to pay for school. Not because they just don’t care, and not because protesting is for the bandwagon, cliche, ineffective, and overrated.

Regarding WOPR (Western Oregon Plans Revisions)

We cordially invite you to stay in Oregon ALL summer so that you can be a part of whatever reaction we might all have to the final BLM decision on WOPR...

Sounds amazing. I’ll be sure to mark staying in Oregon to react to a BLM decision as my most exciting summer plan. And you wonder why students and other people are not interested in protesting.

The new issue of the Insurgent was the talk of the campus today, as well. My hippie double-nose ring travelmug Arabic classmate was candidly quoted, “The Insurgent is better than the Commentator. I think they both suck, but the Commentator is worse.” I suppose we have a lot to aspire to, then!

These folks idea of a good time is to keep a jar of unidentifiable slime under the desk in the survival center and to check on it once in a while for laughs-a kind of creeping cultural petri-dish I guess.

  2. Michelle Haley says:

I don’t think a line-item stripper pole is out-of-the-question, given the budget comparison here.

  3. Gsim says:

They collect 3 stipends for all their hard work. Their administrative pay is approximately 4 grand (3,825) of their 20k budget.

That said, they still have a larger printing/duplication budget at 15,832.

  4. Ossie says:

I was wondering if the Insurgent would come out with one more this year. This is issue 5 for the Insurgent for the 07-08 school year; on Tuesday, the Commentator will be putting it’s 12th issue on stands, followed by its 13th and 14th in two weeks, and its 15th during the first Summer term.

Hey, ASUO, why does the SI have a larger budget than the OC?
