Emergency Senate Meeting
No, I was not at ASUO tonight.
But short story:
Nik Antovich was appointed to Con Court, which should be really good for next year. I know we give Nik a lot of crap on this blog, but like I’ve been telling everyone, he’s a really smart person and makes great decisions. He’ll be a good voice of moderation on the body next year.
Lee Warnecke resigned from Senate tonight, too. I don’t know why, but word has it he missed me too much. As a potential leader of Senate next year, his principles and logical thinking leaves Senate at a loss for next year. Hopefully somebody else will be able to step into his shoes. Calling Neil Brown…
Who is Sara Hamilton and why is she always in the papers?
The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) formally recognizes former Senate President Sara Hamilton for her courageous efforts leading the ASUO. After years of misguided, mindless liberalism, Ms. Hamilton directed student government in a sensible direction. May she remain a strong ally to issues surrounding diversity in our community. We salute you Ms. Hamilton. We hope your venture capitalist efforts in the Korean private sector go well.
God Bless,
CM
Pantload Monthly sounds classy. I would pick it up. In fact, did I tell you guys that my first act as editor-in-chief is going to be to change the name of the magazine to Pantload Monthly?
‘n Tapes.
After a brief discussion with CJ, it seems the title of that “publication” should be Pantload Monthly. At least that way it’d ease the publishing obligation that the title created in the first place.
Crap Your Pants, Say Bleh ‘N Tapes and Tra-la-la Band + Choir, you mean?
that’s elon’s favorite dance
I heard the Weekly Pantload is a fanzine for the latest indie-rock sensation, Crap Your Pants And Say Bleh.
Ugh.
Whatever, weekly or bi-weekly, at least they didn’t try to take their leftover 12,000 dollars from only publishing three issues in the year and use it to buy books at the Smith Family Bookstore.
I heard that putting “weekly” in the title of a publication is foolish if you do not publish it weekly.
I heard the Weekly Pantload rips off The Economist.
Oh Kai, your biting wit really cuts me to the core. Shouldn’t you be spending more time on your weekly pant-load, or whatever that waste of paper is?
CJ, I’m glad you noticed. I’ve been sent here by the croney gods to give the ASUO some remedial instruction. Only half of the exec staff are from the campaign – a disgrace!
Katherine Jones for Senate President.
Who is Sara Hamilton and why is her name all over old Oregon Daily Emerald articles?
I’m just glad Justice Alito could take the time out of his busy schedule to weigh in on this important matter.
“This is why I
Dallas Brown would be a nice addition. I love the idea of “Justice Brown” Mmmm
I know for a fact that Sam loves to hate elon like elon loves to write self-glorifying shitbag articles
Sam Dotters Katz, is that you?
Hey idiot! Who is Sma? How do you know they are republicans? And what’s so bad about that anyway? Who are the other two conservatives ass breath?
Nik is 1 of 3 conservatives on this campus who can attend meetings without showing up drunk. that’s why Sma appointed him, cause he n Johnny are republicans who need to get ideological allies in the ASUO.
Elon i hate your guts, but now now a little less, still think you are less then rat piss tho
lol….
I heard this was a really fun meeting to be at.
Not that I care about any of this, but Nik’s the shit.
Michelle, you’re a part of the 5% that is not stupid. And that’s because you work for the commentator. 🙂
As for the insider…if that’s the case, then can someone say “Rock On”?
Rumor has it Antovich is a placeholder for Hamilton’s return from Korea.
This is why I’m in student government, I’m just slightly less stupid than your average student.
The fact that most other students are possibly, and utterly, stupid.
And yes, I’m talking about 95% of other students. They are vastly inferior.
We shouldn’t be confirming people just because they’ll “do fine”. Just about anyone can do a semi-decent job in any of the appointed positions. The question is why we have people being appointed who will “do fine”, rather than people with the qualifications and experience to do an excellent job?
What unique qualification does Nik have do be on Con Court over much more intelligent and qualified students?
he’s not even a journalist, simply an opinion columnist for a campus publication.
Doubt it.
Why would Sam appoint Kevin Parks?
Well, let’s be honest: Sam’s just packing his court to approve all the changes that are comin’ down the line. So as long as he can take directions, Nik will do just fine.
I am not familiar with your version of perspective, Vincent.
That’s what I like to call “perspectve”.
gulle is by far the fucking worst scum of the earth ever to be at the u of o incluing david irving
I don’t really have an opinion one way or another about Antovich being on the Con Court, but judging his fitness for office based on his writing for the Emerald (as opposed to experience, etc.) seems a bit silly.
It was his job to shout his opinions from the ODE for all to hear — he was an opinion columnist, after all.
Sakai,
It just so happens that my opinion of Nate Gulley is far lower than any Con Court justice could ever reach. He’s a bigger stain on the integrity of ASUO than Nik Antovich could ever be. If Greene, Roberts and Bogar weren’t all being confirmed before I even went to UO, I probably would have felt the same way if I had such revealing insight as to their political ideologies, ya idiot.
Kevin: Then maybe you should have asked that opinion of Matt Greene, Jerome Roberts, and Shon Bogar, ya idiot.
Nik Antovich will probably do a lot better than you think. That is, unless you’re a Nate Gulley worshipper…ya Nate Gulley worshipper.
I’m not sure how you can say that one of the most boisterously opinionated and partisan people is such a good candidate for a position which demands clear-cut neutrality in order to maintain its legitimacy. This would be an entirely different situation if he held strong opinions but hadn’t spent the past year shouting them from the mountain tops of the ODE for all to hear. He may very well be a competent and even talented judicial presence, but I for one have no confidence in his objectivity. I would feel the same way if he had written blatantly left-wing columns all year. This just further proves what a joke Con Court is and illustrates how ASUO is totally broken.
That’s true, Dick.
I suppose I’ve realized that his writings aren’t the best indicator of his intellect.
He writes an opinion column, meaning he can write whatever he wants. Also, there’s a big picture of him next to it every time. Seems pretty damn reasonable to judge him by what he writes.
What’s next, judging people by what they say?
Viewpoint neutral? That has nothing to do with Con Court rulings.
Actually, a lot of discussion revolved around his legal experience, or lack thereof. However, some discussion was paid to his ability to remain viewpoint neutral.
It was because of his articles this year, if anything. I doubt any of the people on Senate actually know him.
Kind of goes to show how stupid people are.
Yeah…Bogar is still Chief Justice. By the way, voting for Antovich went as follows: 7-5-2.
I think he’s still Chief Justice.
Ah. Did Bogar get replaced?
Don’t know, there were for 4 openings on Con Court.
Nik got appointed to Con Court? Who is he replacing?
That’s what I’d like to know. 😀
