Dick Cheney: “We will be greeted as liberators.”

On Cheney’s quote: “Arrogant blunder for the ages.”

Newsweek, April 7

Andrew Sullivan dishes out seven, count ’em seven, Von Hoffman awards to various anti-war columnists and doubters. The Von Hoffman awards are given by AndrewSullivan.com to those who make awful wartime predictions, such as forseeing Baghdad as a modern-day Stalingrad. Sullivan also notes that he’s still accepting nominees for the awards. Take that, naysayers!

Update: Sullivan has given out eight more awards.

We Must Be Right!

Hanoi Jane Fonda weighed in on the war and said she fears the “entire world” will unite against the U.S. now. I suppose that will be the entire world, sans freed Iraq. Fonda, who has been on the wrong side of history for a while now: I don’t know if a country where the people are so ignorant of reality and of history, if you can call that a free world.

Speaking of history lessons, Iraq will be a lesson for others, according to a U.S. official.

Nothing Like This

I stole this from Instapundit. All Your Base Are Belong To Us, 2k3 Remix

This poll from the Washington Post (I’ll call it WaPo if I damn well please) seems to indicate that at-home support for this war is sky high. Woot. Also, the guy from Brunching.com has his own blog. It is often funny.

Pictures worth entire AP columns

Check out War Photos. I really like the picture of the tank going underneath the swords. Why don’t we have ambitious architecture like that over here?

Tragedy Averted

Despite the event’s low attendance, the debate was quite lively, with six tickets and 11 total candidates espousing their views on how to run next year’s student government. One candidate, Jeremy Jones, even had a Secret Service-esque bodyguard, who unfortunately failed to protect him during a mock assassination attempt at the end of the two-hour debate session.

And more from the ODE.

Aspiring emperor Jeremy L. Jones stated that listening to students’ concerns and ideas was not important, and students would not be acknowledged under his regime.

“I know what’s the best for students. I am the leader of destiny, hope for mankind,” Jones said, adding that he hoped to soon recapture Oregon State University to unite his kingdom.

For more promising campaign ideas, check out Jeremy Jones’ website.

Point/ Counter-Point/ Counter-Counter-Point

Here’s a hot link from Drudge. Jailed Iraqi children freed from a prison. Their crime? Not joining the youth branch of the Baath party.

Obviously good news. But will this be enough evidence of human rights abuse (nay.. attrocities) to sway sceptical liberals? No, because….

Look at the way this picture of a young bomb victim is being spun. Read the text below…

So Bush, can you help him get a new pair of hands? Blair? Aznar? Karimov? Can Haliburton “rebuild” his arms?

Notice that the name Saddam is conspicuously absent. The left refuses to acknowledge that Saddam and his Baath party are responsible for any civilian blood spilled. Obviously an image like this is a graphic example of the horrors of war, but let’s not forget who paved the path to conflict.

Paging Don Goldman …

A letter to Sullivan:There is nothing sadder than an old hippie trying to regain his/her youth through the manipulation of others and at the expense of a suffering people they claim to feel sympathy for.

Sound like any amphitheater megaphone jerk you know? It does to me. Actually, it sounds like most of Eugene.

ODB: FREE?

Sources close to the Wu-Tang Clan’s most eccentric member said that ODB is no longer in prison, having recently been transferred to a psychiatric hospital in the New York City area.

and….

When ODB is finally free to move around on his own, he will be shooting a reality show pilot for VHI, tentatively titled “On Parole With ODB.

You heard it here second.

Sullivan Hits Perfect Pitch

with this piece about why it would be best for everyone if liberals would go back to actually being liberal instead of crazed anti-Americans.

Bring Our Troops Home!

This is ridiculous. An anti-war group in San Francisco plans to set up a picket line at the Port of Oakland in order to disrupt the shipment of supplies to U.S. troops in Iraq. On organizer states:

We feel like the war is what’s putting their lives in danger. This is an effort to save lives by stopping the war as quickly as possible.

What bullshit. The loss of shipments will not only deprive American soldiers of essential supplies (like medical equipment), but it will keep humanitarian aid from reaching Iraqi citizens. Is this what the protesters mean by being against the war, but supporting our troops?

Update: Police battle with Oakland protesters.

Virginia Tech reinstituted its affirmitive action policy Sunday after a vote by the school’s Board of Visitors.

It’s unfortunate that academic institutions, including the University of Oregon, continue to promote ethnic and gender diversity, while avoiding the inclusion of political and intellectual variety.

This is undoubtedly the coolest thing i have heard of an elderly person doing in a while. (Short of using a left turn blinker on an actual left turn…) Read here

It’s about as surprising as 3 month old milk tasting rancid, but here’s an accusation that a higher up in the Saudi government has terrorist ties…

Lastly, the always eloquent Andrew Sullivan eloquently analyzes the American love affair with the always eloquent Tony Blair…

This piece is just sodden with eloquence.

What is Regime Change?

Per staff discussions at the local Hot Dog & Brew shack, I’ve located, from the likeliest of sources – NRO, a good discussion of what a regime is and what regime change would therefore be. Sullivan hits the topic by referencing Kerry’s cry for regime change. Also from NRO is a great, thoughtful piece for neocons on what the world may look like soon and why Colin Powell may end up being far more powerful than his supporters or detractors ever imagined.

The Guster Show Rocked, Take That Nay-sayers

In other news…it seems that our friends in the Frozen North are holding some rallies in support of America. I never thought I’d say this, but go Canadians.

Also, if you haven’t already, be sure to check out this great Sullivan piece about Tony Blair.

Manufacturing Dissent

There was a great article in The New Yorker last week about Noam Chomsky that is not, unfortunately, online. But Eric Alterman has actually written a great examination of Chomsky’s ludicrous political claims. David Horowitz has done the same thing, of course, but this is much shorter. (You have to scroll down a ways to find it…)
