Life Ain’t All Puddin’ Pops
Bill Cosby has some harsh words for the African-American community. And, according to Bird Dog over at Tacitus, Ted Rall is not very pleased about it. The whole development isn’t surprising, but I think Cosby’s statements, while perhaps overly harsh, could do a lot of good in the long-run.
Cosby is basically trading in stereotypes, which of course is his prerogative. McWhorter I think is actually constructive.
Cosby has become an acid-tongued McWhorter, all right. But I should save that line for my own blog. Oh well.
Also, yes, Cosby has turned into a curmudgeon, but he’s an awesome curmudgeon. Yes, even when he’s schilling for Jell-o.
Olly: Thanks for pointing out my misstatement.
Self: Reread before linking, fool.
Which reminds me: here’s a John McWhorter Commentary piece I hadn’t seen. (Link is PDF.)
Minor point: Bird Dog actually says
Makes you wonder what Rall thinks about Bill Cosby…
Rall hasn’t sounded off on this one yet, as far as I know, although his comments on Rice are – yawn – reprehensible enough in their own right, and a Rall-on-Cosby op-ed virtually writes itself. (Be sure to conclude by calling for a class war.)
Meanwhile, Cosby has turned into one hell of a curmudgeon, hasn’t he?
