The Circus Begins!

Voting in the ASUO Primary Elections began 4 minutes ago.

With all the noise about grievances, special elections, election dates being changed, I’ll be surprised if students even vote at all. And on top of that, the ballot is extremely confusing on Duckweb. It’s hard to know which box coincides with which candidate…but Florida in the year 2000 demonstrated that that can work in some peoples’ advantage.

Anyways, as students apathetically concerned with what happens on campus, I encourage you to vote. Proceed with caution down the ballot.

  1. Vincent says:

Anyone else noticed this little gem from Diego Hernandez on the Daily Emerald’s site?

Diversity, in the mind of the average white, heteronormative male is obviously or should be non-European. Thus, Woodburn is a diverse place. White people suddenly want to be included in the term diversity. This is why Affirmative Action is becoming weaker and scholarships that are meant for people of color are going to white people because diverse means something different.

    This guy’s a complete disgrace.

  2. Vincent says:

    It isn’t.

  3. Ossie says:

Well said. It’s sad that members of the MCC receive criticism of their program as personal attacks. All this mess seems like it could be resolved, for the most part, by honest, open and civilized discussion. I

  4. Niedermeyer says:

I think students of all identities should go to the MCC sometime and just chat with people to get a feel for what really goes on down there. The MCC’s mission and goals are laudable, but the institution is mired in fringe ideology. Basically, the MCC gives stipended “leadership positions” to its most ideologically driven members, who then push everyone else further and further down the identity politics rabbit hole. The mission for this leadership vanguard is not to serve students of color, it’s to harangue them into buying into a very specific ideology.

The problem isn’t the MCC or its mission, it’s the MCC leadership as created by Steve Morizumi. The man has created a small army of monsters who will say anything and hate anyone just so he can further justify his (student fee-funded) $50k per year. And for what? College ends for everyone at some point, and the tactics and ideology that the MCC teach do nothing to prepare students for anything besides a lifetime of bitterness, hatred and group-enforced ideological discipline.

If you don’t believe me, go down to the MCC sometime and discuss the issues. I did, and I encountered a group of people who were programmed to attack me. Political fringes exist on every campus, and I respect their freedom to express their views. But the MCC should exist to serve students of color, not indoctrinate them.

  5. Ossie says:

Now that’s just not very nice.

  6. Sakaki says:

Yep. Diversity is a member of the MCC. Didn’t have to do an IP trace to find that out. It helps overhearing things while you’re visiting campus.

Let’s just say that the person who posts as “Diversity” is nothing more than a sophomoric hack who deserves nothing more than to be beaten to within an inch of their lives by a bunch of Japanese tourists.

There are very few people that fit this description.

  7. Ossie says:

That is interesting, and hilarious. It’s obviously a campus computer and probably just a coincidence, Vincent, so don’t jump too far into a conspiracy theory.

  8. Vincent says:

Hm. Doing a search on Diversity’s IP turns up some interesting results.

  9. Vincent says:

The problem with people like ‘Diversity’ is that they’re basically always trying to use race as a way to bully and discredit others and gain power (or at least authenticity) for themselves. Unfortunately, they’re generally not very intelligent people. Underneath the thin veneer of self-righteousness lies little more than a litany of slogans and a battery of worn-out insults that they themselves don’t really understand beyond their expletive utility.

They’ve copped their style from professors and public figures who intellectually and rhetorically (and often morally) outclass them, but they seek to emulate their role models in the public sphere without the benefit of any sort of insight that goes deeper than smugness, shallow self-congratulation, and a generally uncurious worldview based primarily upon an obsession with race.

Why else would such an avowed anti-racist ‘Diversity’ savage the Commentator for “lik[ing] the candidates of color from the start”, as if those candidates’ only qualification were the color of their skin?

‘Diversity”s cognitive dissonance only increases when he challenges the Commentator staff to a face-to-face meet-up, only to promptly rescind his challenge when it is accepted. An even greater lack of self-awareness is displayed when ‘Diversity’ declares that he has no time for those who, unlike himself, do not respect everyone (and their background). Presumably people who ‘Diversity’ doesn’t agree with don’t qualify for “everyone” status, since he cannot even be bothered to speak with them anymore.

So much for the great national conversation about race we’ve been promised.

Sadly these acts of clownish dogmatism are all too common among the self-proclaimed “anti-racist” crowd. They’re too busy declaring everyone who doesn’t pander to their interests to be racist to actually spent a moment of time fighting real racism. One wonders if they can even recognize it at this point.

  10. Proofreader says:

Oh yes, and after you get that job please go purchase the Chicago Manual of Style. Type writer?

  11. Sean Jin says:

By the way, I feel marginalized by the Oregon Commentator as a colored person.

  12. Sean says:

Is my last article not true, or is it not true?
Accusations of racism without foundation, evidence, or justification.

But then again, people of color shouldn’t have to shoulder the burden of identifying every single racist act. We as OCers must take the time to contemplate what we said that might be racist.

  14. Diversity says:

    CJ,
Already know who you are, and from what you write and support can tell a lot about you. Lets see what the rest of your articles look like, it’s funny how your section today was just one-sided. Anyways we’ll see, I’m done for now. I could tell you based on how people of color are treated by your commentator.

Goodbye, no use of wasting time on people who don’t respect everyone and their background.

  15. Diversity says:

Hahaha…ASUO Insider your comment is just racist right there. You probably haven’t experienced it, just because the name is Diversity in no way means this should be forwarded to MCC. You guys should get a job and quit living on here talking online. Go out and meet all the “colored” people, forward them all to the MCC to their face and then lets see. It’s funny because neither of you would know about racists or racism, i’m guessing neither of you are of a ethnic group.

  16. CJ Ciaramella says:

    First of all, DRINK!

Second, you should schedule a meeting with us to see how we “are without a type writer.” After reading your comment, I would love to hear more of your eloquent and thoughtful opinions. Would you like to do an interview? You could tell us exactly how we feel about people of color, and I’d totally post it on the blog. Email the Commentator, and let’s set this up.

  17. ASUO Insider says:

Hahahahahahahahahhahahahaha. Racists…I think “Diversity” thought he or she was at the ASUO Multicultural Center website…

  18. what? says:

Huh? Is this a joke?? haha it’s so outlandish. Get a fucking job.

  19. Diversity says:

You people who run this site are a bunch of racists. Look how you choose which candidates you would endorse, you wouldn’t even have a job if it wasn’t for student government. I’m sick of your little comments and everything and then I see you in the classroom. You sure talk a lot on a website or on paper. You haven’t liked the candidates of color from the start and it’s evident by reading your articles. Oregon Commentator, this really annoys me at this campus, it’s evident how you feel about people of color and it’s sad. Then you have the nerves to publish articles good/bad about Obama like that makes you open to people of color. Yea right, I can see right through all of you, so quit with the fake smiles around campus. Lets see what you have to say, I should schedule a meeting with you to see how you actually are without a type writer. Racists

  20. Timothy says:

I think I voted for Buchanan.
