Memo From The “Plague On Both Your Houses” Desk

In the Washington Post (registration required?), a report on the group Move America Forward, which is lobbying movie theaters to yank Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. Interestingly, they seem to have decided that the best way to combat Moore is to provide him with massive amounts of free publicity.

  1. Timothy says:

It was “pox” in the edition we had in highschool, let’s blame the failing American educational system and be done with it!

  2. Olly says:

I may be misremembering, but it’s “plague” in my edition.(And in the First Web Folio, which by the way I think is a great idea.)

  3. Timothy says:

You know, the line is “A pox on both your houses”

  4. Olly says:

Thanks for the links, Bob. (To be fair on the mainstream media conspiracy, this info is also right there in the first two paragraphs of the WaPo story.)

JohnH: I’m not sure if the name of the film counts as fair use or not, but Bradbury is pissed unto apoplexy at Moore for using it without asking.

  5. bob says:

Here’s the real info about Move America Forward: it’s a front for a GOP-related PR firm.

  6. Mene says:

If it bothers you to register for stuff like the NYTimes and WaPo, y’all might want to check out bugmenot.com

    Just a thought.

  7. JohnH says:

Of course, that’s assuming Ray Bradbury decides not to sue over the name.

  8. WWB says:

There you go! And now, back to awaiting news of his demise…

  9. Danimal says:

So you could say Kaloogian’s sort of the political Ted McGinley, eh?

  10. WWB says:

Re: WaPo. Required … occasionally. And once you log in, the site won’t take you to the page you requested. I am not happy about this.

Re: Moving America Forward. It’s not as if Moore wasn’t getting plenty of free publicity anyway, but it’s a good point anyway. One of the organizers of this movement is Howard Kaloogian, an obnoxious sponge (as I’ve written elsewhere) who tried to take credit for launching the recall and then ran a nowheresville bid for the Senate this year. His participation would seem to doom any operation he’s a part of, but that strikes me as tautology — anything he’d get involved with was already doomed to begin with.
