University Student Killed In Collision on 13th Ave.

Michael Joyce, a 23-year-old pre-journalism major, died at Sacred Heart Medical Center early Saturday morning after colliding with a vehicle driven by another University student, according to the Oregon Daily Emerald and Register Guard. The driver, philosophy major David Soulier, had a blood alcohol content of .08 percent. It is illegal to drive with a .08 percent BAC or higher in Oregon. Joyce, according to a witness, was riding his bike in the wrong direction down 13th Avenue. The Register Guard news brief mentions that there were other bicyclists accompanying Joyce, while the Emerald does not.

The Eugene Police Department has not charged Soulier with a crime, but the news articles indicate that it may do so after an investigation.

now I look at the date of this post and realize that it is old news…. silly me.

  2. Dustin says:

.08 is an absurd standard and I’d be willing to bet the driver wasn’t impaired. The way bicylists ride around here it’s no suprise that one of them was run over. Very sad story for everyone involved.

TAKE HEED, my darling drinking/driving boys. (Not to sound like your mom or anything. I would never.)
