Quote of the Day
“[…] Barack Obama isn’t only a presidential candidate — he’s a class marker, an item of conspicuous consumption.”
– Kevin Williamson, National Review Online

Tom: Sarcasm?
Apparently, Obama’s aunt is an illegal immigrant. That will hurt his chances on Tuesday!
I can always count on Olly.
“Nowhere is this more true than in Eugene.”
Also, less.
Well, McCain’s pick of a vapid, creationist fool for a running mate does not do a lot to convince me that his campaign is in anyway intellectual. “ZOMG WE GIVE MONEY TO STUDY FLIES! FLIES! BAH WHAT GOOD IS THA?!?! THE FRENCH!”
Yes, what a waste. Drosophila melanogaster only made everything we know about animal genomics possible. Only that, it’s only been an integral part of the advancement of biological science for the better part of a century. Little detail there, fucking chump.
Damn, thank god I finally got my Obama sticker on my Mercedes! Perhaps now my friends at the DAC will appreciate me!
Haha kidding…
But anyway, Williamson makes a good point: while the so-called “mob” might get a lot of media play (yeah, I must admit some fault there), there’s vast numbers of McCain supporters who are well-qualified intellectuals. Also, I personally think it’s better to vote for someone based on their own credentials and values, not those of their perceived “anti-intellectual extremists” of supporters. But obviously Applebaum can make her decision based on whatever criteria she chooses.
How so?
