In case you thought it was just the ASUO who were complete idiots:
Students at an Ottawa university are pulling out of a Canada-wide fundraiser that provides close to $1 million a year for cystic fibrosis research and treatment, arguing that the disease “has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men” — something experts say is untrue.

The student council motion stated that orientation week “strives to be inclusive” and “all orientees and volunteers should feel like their fundraising efforts will serve their diverse communities.”
I have trouble believing this is real and not some sort of bad parable constructed by an Ayn Rand zombie.

Reminds me of the arguments about AIDS being a ‘gay’ disease.
Ayn Rand zombies wouldn’t be that scary because they wouldn’t travel in packs – individualist zombies.
It is actually quite understandable that this would and should happen. White straight male diseases already get a lot of money donated, because there is so much institutional inequality in the world. Diseases like lupus and scabies. We need a more level playing field of research, give money to research how to end lazyness!

Decisions like these are to be expected of student governments, because those involved in student government are not necessarily the best and brightest. The smartest at the university are kept so busy just trying to pass their programs (*cough* the sciences *cough*), that only those enrolled in the easier and less demanding programs (*cough* humanities *cough*) have the time to devote to student government.
Not to mention that people take up the banner of “diversity” and wield it like a sword rather than a flag.
NEWS FLASH!! OSPIRG is going on the endangered species list because they are at risk of being extinct.

please do not compare student programs to feral animals. who do you think we are? oregon students of color and other marginalized and underrepresented communities need a voice in student government and you continually exude white male privilege over us programs when we need your money the most. stop attacking student programs. be ware Mr. Irwin….. the sting ray is coming back: in paper form. to the con court!

I received a startling email last night regarding the student senate. Has the OC done any investigation into the validity of the email? I fear my program’s spring farewell BBQ might get cut if the budgets are downsized.

I read the Fountainhead this last Summer to see what all the fuss was about.
Every day, I would read more and more pages, and yet the story, despite being over 600 pages long, seemed to go NOWHERE.
I nowhere came near to achieving life while reading that crap, although just very narrowly avoided death.
