When I read the lead story in The Diamondback (‘Former finalist chosen as new dean,’ Feb. 10), I was at first confused by the poor grammar in the first sentence. Then, when I looked at the by-line and saw the article was written by Jayson T. Blair, the editor in chief of The Diamondback, I was appalled!
I found this while digging through the archives of the University of Maryland’s student paper, the Diamondback, where the infamous Mr. Blair worked as a staff writer and editor.
According to the Newsweek story, “[Blair’s] tenure as editor was marked by strife, allegations of racism, problematic stories and fantastical tales.”
And, apparently, grammatical inconsistencies.
