It’s Not Censorship If We Just Forgot To Mention It

Absurdly short notice, but it might be worth pointing out that there’ll be a panel on campus press censorship this evening, organized by the Bias Response Team. If you haven’t seen the expressions that cross Tyler’s face as people explain to him that the OC should be run out of Eugene on a rail, you’re missing out; and we sincerely hope that this will be the last chance you get this year.

6:30 PM, 111 Lillis.

  1. Chris says:

I just realized this was a differant Biased Response Team panel. You guys were on the 18th apparently. We were on the 19th. My bad. I still stand by my comment.
    Peace,
    Chris

  2. Chris says:

Eh, it wasn’t the best panel ever, though it was the first panel I’ve ever been on. Here are my thoughts on the whole event. http://luthermatrix19.blogspot.com/2005/05/grand-debate.html
My position was 1. Censoring speech is bad 2. national/state politicians/activists who are trying to censor university professors who teach “controversial material,” are bad.
The R’s position was 1. Chuck Hunt is bad 2. people need to be less negative 3. discourse is good.
The Moderator’s position was 1. Did you know professors are biased! 2. I’m going to write down the things you say here and start telling all my colleagues about how biased they are! 3. I can’t see that small democrat at the end of the table, I’m sure he doesn’t want to respond. You were saying Anthony?

  3. Timothy says:

HAHA sounds like that “Ethics are good” panel I was on with Jan last year.

  4. Olly says:

I wish the ODE had written it up; the headline could have been Panel Outnumbers Audience.

OK, that’s an exaggeration, but only a slight one. Nothing much to report, really: with one exception that you can probably guess, campus media groups are (shock!) opposed to restrictions on campus speech.

  5. Timothy says:

It’s a bit of a drive from here, let me know how it goes.
