I like the new page numbers. They stay in the picture! I really don’t see how they look ‘zine-ish.
You want curmudgeonitude, Timothy, pull up a stool and bring me my jug…
-In my day, we put the dingbat at the end of every article.
-In my day, we’d have the author-note blurb at the end of every article in Italics, damn it!
-In my day, we’d tweak and tweak the layout until we eliminated all that white space at the end of every article.
-In my day, we’d edit our pull quotes for brevity and snap!
-In my day, we’d identify each story on the jump page to cut down on reader confusion. You know, “Please turn to BOOBS, page 20” . . . and then on page 20 it would say “BOOBS, from page 12.”
-In my day, we’d throw in the very occasional reference to national politics in the editorial if it seemed suitable. Being campus-focused does not require living in a vacuum; Eugene’s got enough of that already.
-In my day, we actually started the putting-of-“Commentator”-in-small-caps thing, so it wasn’t always so.
-In my day, we tried quite a few new things with the layout, and Ed Madrid did a lot of innovation before that. Change was good!
New PDF uploaded
-fixed most pdf problems
-Small caps and various copy editing errors fixed.
-The editorial should have read “libertarian,” not “Libertarian.”
-I think the new page numbers look better than the old ones.
-Body copy is Times 10pt, which as far as I know is the same version the OC has always used. The difference may be that past issues have been made with TrueType fonts whereas his issue was made with OpenType/Truetype fonts. Their appearance should be identical.
Problems:
-Oof, the masthead isn’t entirely accurate.
-Krugman’s date is 199? instead of 1998.
-“Leviathan” is misspelled in editorial
-the pdf output screwed up some of the elements, making some black illustrations lighter than other
-the pdf output screwed up the title for Michael’s piece… the lines were PERFECT in InDesign, damnit.
Thankfully, Spew is still hilarious and Krugman is still crazy.
Lousy wop-dagos still can’t cook.
Bravo, Tyler! Your recount of evenings spent at Buster’s made me snort and cry and long for the fall/winter of 2003.
Like a fine wine that way.
Aw come on, Bill improves with age.

There, my young friend.
Happy birthday Ian!
Hey, happy birthday.
Oh, and since it’s my birthday I’m going to go get some food and drinks and try to forget about InDesign. Cheers.

Complaints:
Oregon Commentator or Commentator always go in small caps. Technically small caps Utopia Regular, but at least do the small capping.
We are not a Libertarian publication, we are a libertarian publication. There is a difference, remember that.
Editorial/Articles are to end with the OC dingbat at the bottom of the page.
What the hell is with the new page numbers? Seriously, what the hell. It looks like a zine.
Too Many Goddamned Fonts.
What’s with the bloody national politics stuff in the editorial?
You need to down-sample the dpi in the .pdf images. It’s hanging me up, and I’m on a spakin’ new box with broadband.
Did you change the body copy, if so, why? I may have to cut you for that.
Why is the tracking so loose?
Things cost more than they used to.
MAATLOOOOOOCKKK!
Check the .pdf settings.
I like the cover, haven’t read it yet. Will complain later.
