Ol’ Dirty endorses RTY, WTF?

The Ol’ Dirty stuck to its true form today by endorsing the corrupt Rock the Yellow slate and Kari and Jesse. It is almost unbelievable that they would root for the political machine that was responsible for the ruling that candidates cannot advertise in the ODE.

But the reason for the Emerald’s endorsement extends beyond platforms and policy positions. Herinckx and Hough have presented themselves as more in touch with students and their needs.

Laughable. Everything Sam and Johnny have done is in the name of perpetuating the average student’s voice, while Jesse and Kari, great student leaders but with too much baggage with them, have only defended their positions as cookie-cutter pinups for the current administration.

I am disappointed with the Emerald Editorial Board. Supporting a ticket run by an administration that has abused its power to limist free speach on campus is a pathetic stance to have.

The inventions we’re probably closest to are the noise-cancellation technology and the legged robots. If the noise-cancellation thing received some sort of funding, with either financial awards or guaranteed sales for working devices, we could probably have small-scale noise abatement devices available quickly. Unfortunately environmentalists are too corrupt to do anything about noise pollution.

  2. CJ Ciaramella says:

That’s not me, by the way.

  3. CJ says:

    “… limist free speach …”

Everybody makes typos, but that phrase really is a bit much.

Every candidate is the Mitt Romney of the ASUO.

Sean Jin hates white people. And red foxes. And golden eagles. And brown bears.

  7. Sean Jin says:

    I second that.

  8. Bryan says:

I think we can at least agree that Sean Jin is an annoying person.

  9. Vincent says:

Give a good reason the Commentator should’ve supported the opposition.

  10. Anonymous says:

Somewhat moot, given that they won, but Dotters-Katz and Delashaw think that it’s a-ok that students have basically no oversight over the Rec Center. The most intelligent thing they can say about the PFC process is that it’s a “circus.” They pander in the lowest “let’s sell cheap pizza” common denominator way and come up with unrealistic plans that sound good on paper. Does anyone actually think they’re going to get LTD to run later? They are the Mitt Romney of the ASUO, only in this case the electorate wasn’t astute enough to see through it all. I guess if hating OSPIRG is all the Commentator is looking at, then your support makes sense.

This is hilarious. I love that you guys cling to the idea of corruption and abuse of power by ASUO students, as if any of this is actually important enough to abuse what “power” student senators have. I mean, I like the Oregon Commentator for the most part. But really?

P.S. Sean Jin is arguably the most annoying person I know.

  13. el.doce says:

yeah. sam and johnny won by 400 votes.

  14. lee says:

    Any results back yet?

  15. Sean says:

Not to mention the logic used in the article doesn’t really make sense…

  16. Jake says:

The idea that any publication would endorse politicians who have actively tried to limit free speech is absolutely ridiculous. This is why no one takes the Emerald seriously. We get told at the J-school over and over again how the media is supposed to be a watchdog. How we are supposed to call out politicians when they are not acting in the interests of the public. Here we have politicians trying to limit speech for political gains, and instead of calling them out for it, the Emerald endorses it. Utterly ridiculous.

  17. Sean says:

Ossie, I’ve never seen you care so much about…anything…
    Wow.

  18. Timothy says:

Oh, Ossie, there are no great student leaders, only slightly less douchey student leaders.
