Bob Barr Wins Libertarian Presidential Nomination

I’ve had the pleasure of watching the 2008 Libertarian convention LIVE! on C-SPAN this afternoon. After 6 ballots, and a clusterfuck of debates, discussion, and chanting, Bob Barr has been selected to be the Libertarian Party’s nominee.

Due to a change in the bi-laws, Wayne Allyn Root, former presidential candidate (as of about ballot #4), may now run for VP with Barr.

I’m a little personally frustrated because both Barr and Root just converted to the Libertarian Party this year, and I was pulling for Mary Ruwart because of her previous nominations within the party, and her fly bangs. At least she made it to ballot #6.

As a side note; if someone were to make a movie about Wayne Allyn Root’s life, might I suggest casting Sean Astin, the guy from The Goonies and Lord of the Rings, as Root? Just a suggestion.

    Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!

Good for the Libertarian Party they finally have a decent ticket. I’m sure they will do better than they ever have especially since Ron Paul has previously stirred the pot and energized a significant libertarian minded constituency out there. I cannot bring myself to vote for McCain and his big government ways and I am glad to see some viable third party candidates, the more the better.

If you’re a member of the Libertarian party (or a Democrat), you should be really happy that Barr won. He by far and away has the broadest appeal and best name recognition of anyone in the party. Don’t know if he’ll be able to Naderize McCain, but he’ll at least make a bit of noise.

Ruwart is a nutjob and would’ve received even fewer votes than Badnarik.

  4. Glen W. Livingston says:

The various third party candidates thus far are so boring and unenthused that it looks like I will be voting for one of the mnore mainstream party candidates this November.
