Well, he was with several other people who’ve corroborated the incident, most notably Michael Totten.
I didn’t read it too carefully, but whose to say he even got his ass kicked? It sort of read as if made up or heavily exaggerated to me. A bit of embellishment has been know to sell a story.
If it is true, it is still a poor tale. I mean can you be any more of an emasculated bitch then this guy? Some jerk slaps him and he’s all:

Of course, I’ve always been a fan of Hitchens. He sort of personifies a certain segment of the UK Left, which also includes people like Norm Geras and the Harry’s Place blog, that, while I’m not in agreement on everything, I find to be a lot more interesting and insightful than much of what passes as “left” commentary in the US.
That said, I find most of what Hitch writes on religion to be borderline unreadable.
Hitch and swastikas: Two twines of waning relevance forever tied together by the learned words “Fuck Nazis” followed by several punches to the face.
He will never stop milking this story, I’m sure.
