Big Fire on Franklin
You’ve probably noticed the clouds of acrid smoke choking campus since about 3pm or so. That’s because the building next to the “Louie’s Village” restaraunt down on Franklin Blvd. is currently in the process of burning to the ground.
Franklin is totally closed to traffic at Alder St., so don’t go down there.
[EDIT]
Unless you want to take pictures.
[UPDATE]
According to KEZI, the building is vacant. That means the electricity is probably shut off. My guess? Squatters.

Word on the street is the “Clean Air Project” will be organizing a campaign to ban smoke from blazing infernos from campus, pointing out that they have “a right to clean air.”
Next to Louie’s Village? Why’d they target the abandoned building, it never served offensively terrible food.
I guess I’ve been around for longer than it seems….. Maybe I’m getting old…
BUT they were very angry about losing their business to the city with (in their eyes) less than adequate compensation.
I’m sure it was just squatters.. much more realistic. A conspiracy is just more fun.
Unless I’m mis-remembering, that building’s been boarded up since I’ve been in Eugene… so about 8 or 9 years? Long time for a former owner of a long-derelict building to hold a grudge.
I think that was the building that was taken with eminent domain and the property never was used for the intended purpose. Squatters or pissed off former owners?
Next to a chinese restaurant? Zach, for shame.
My guess, UO pyro-planners wanting more land for a “state of the art” indoor track.
Autoerotic asphyxiation is a helluva fetish.
I took some pictures, now I can’t breathe. Lesson learned.
