Sunday Sports wrap-up

It was a big Saturday for me. After I dropt three straight games of chess on Friday, the home teams came through with a 3-0 record.

The day started with an 84-74 win by the Ducks basketball team over the No. 21 Arizona Wildcats at the McKale Center in Tuscon. The Ducks now have a 2-game winning streak at the McKale Center for the first time ever. Coach Ernie Kent said it looked like “Oregon of Old,” and the team overcame losing three of its last four games to mediocre opponents. Malik Hairston led the way with 29 points and Maarty Leunen had his eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The women’s team also beat the Wildcats, 59-53 at the Pit. Anyone have an update on when Stingray Schafer will be able to play?

In NFL playoff action, the Seattle Seahawks beat the Washington Redskins, 35-14, in the first round. The Hawks travel to Lambeau Field next week to take on the Green Bay Packers, and you can bet that quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has something to prove after his last playoff visit to the Packers. I have $20 on this game, so I hope the Hasselwagon is loaded and ready to roll.

Unfortunately, I did not get to watch the final big win of the day, other than ESPN GameCast updates. The Portland Trail Blazers stomped the Utah Jazz and have now won 16 of their last 17 games, and continue to stick it to everyone (I’m looking at you Jake) who told me the Blazers have no playoff hopes without No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden. Martel Webster went off in the third quarter, scoring 24 of his 26 points in the in the third quarter, only one point shy of Terry Porter’s 1992 performance of 25 points in a quarter.

Could Portland be heading for another Blaze of Glory this season?
