Paging Zack Vishanoff

So this is Gordon Smith’s new logo:

Notice anything familiar? How about that “O”? No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you; that’s the same font the U of O athletic department uses. Is Smith trying to get in on the Phil Knight gravy train, or does he just bleed yellow and green?

A shake of the fist to those d-bags at Blue Oregon.

UPDATE: The font is not only copyrighted by the U of O, but it’s top secret. Smith must have pulled a Mission Impossible to get his hands on it. The Duck Sports News Blog has more details.

Once the arena goes belly up you can use it for housing Like the Katrina dome. One big happy 300 million dollar goose egg duck nest! The same firm who FEMA had fix Katrina dome is doing the UO project. How cozy Ellerbe Beckett is. Open bidding can get so competitive and “unsustainable”

  2. Sakaki says:

Absolutely! The Villard Pub stays. Hell, keep most of the businesses along Franklin and in that area. And the Campus housing to the south of the arena.

Just get rid of the rest of the neighborhood and turn it into University stuff.

  3. Michelle Haley says:

Sakaki, can we also keep the Villard Pub? They have fantastic sliders…

  4. Sakaki says:

    I want my arena. NOW.

And I’d like to see the Fairmount neighborhood destroyed. Except those pretty Rhododendron gardens. Those should be kept. And the Market of Choice. And the 7-11.

  5. orwellduk says:

You need more time in uncle Alberto’s altitude chamber -also put a permanent g.p.s. NIKE “sportband” on this cat. Even commies can be forced embrace the nikesport parishilton pre and phil culture. Proceed directly to the Bowerman building at Hayward for cultural retraining or go directly to jail.

  6. nikegood says:

    i love Nike.
I wish nike executives had more influence on this university. corporate america is more efficient.

    ty schowf. communist

  7. orwellduk says:

I think it’s just a cheap rip-off of the UO athletics department lettering. However with Gordon Smith being a vigilant activist in pork barrel stem cell activity(new state slogan “make friends in Oregon”) we are sure to become a cesspool of excellence of sustainable biosciences(cloning). That will be a boon with the new economy designer athlete/baby research cluster economy advocates (like our NIKE friends).

  8. Vincent says:

I’m forming a new advocacy group.

  9. Carly Erickson says:

    Hahahaha… Oh my.

  10. Sean Jin says:

    Webdings would have been sweet.

  11. CJ Ciaramella says:

You just wait until I can get on a computer with Photoshop …

  12. Vincent says:

Word is that his staff nixed his original idea of using Webdings.

  13. CJ Ciaramella says:

I’m just surprised Smith didn’t go with his old standby Comic Sans MS.

  14. Vincent says:

The font “Melior” has an “O” that is quite similar to the UO font.

  15. Michelle Haley says:

Chris: I think it’s a little off, just enough that it’s not the copyrighted version. The thin parts at the top and bottom look a little too thick in proportion to the sides.

  16. Chris Holman says:

That’s a copyrighted image if it is the same “O”.

So, if it is the same, then either the U of O is sponsoring Gordon Smith, or Smith is violating copyright.

  17. Michelle Haley says:

I noticed the font in a GS commercial and figured it was his attempt at appealing to younger voters since he’s, you know, old and stuff.
