ODE Gets Its ASUO Blog On

As I previously wrote, the Ol’ Dirty has set up a bunch of blogs. Well, they just started up another blog solely dedicated to the ASUO (emphasis not mine):

Welcome to the Oregon Daily Emerald’s new (maybe eventually) award-winning blog coverage of the government of the Associated Students of the University of Oregon.

We decided to create this site for the best, noblest reason, one that befits the high-minded guardians of the Fourth Estate: the ASUO governs how your money is spent (at least a miniscule quantum of the umpty-trillion dollars you pump into that Anthropology degree annually) and without the constant oversight we provide, they could use it for nefarious purposes and you would never know. That and the Commentator has an (definitely actually) award-winning politics blog. And in it they call us “The Dirty.” Sometimes even in lowercase.

To the new ASUO reporter for the ODE, I give you the same inspirational words I gave to the last one: Welcome to hell.

  1. chevy says:

Actually, there is one post about last week’s senate meeting. It’s obvious from the way it’s written that it’s this bloggers first senate meeting write-up. Check it out and laugh.

  2. Vincent says:

No one has noticed because there’s almost zero chance anyone will ever read that blog.

  3. Bryan says:

Has anyone else noticed that they haven’t updated their ASUO blog yet, even though plenty of ASUO meeting have taken place?

  4. Kenneth says:

If Anastia Stragr got fired I’m never reading that rag again.

  5. T says:

Oh, did Strgar (????) get fired? Really? Seriously, that’s one of the easiest jobs at the ODE aside from copy editor. Or, um, managing editor.

  6. Timothy says:

Where are we putting the line? A term? Two?

  7. THUNDERLOVE says:

i know that the ODE is going through a tailspin right now with Anastia Stralgar or however it is spelled has been fired. (OH no no more columns on her mom being a sex therapist.) This is a cheap ploy to do what we can without the booze. THey got to figure out that booze is the biggest part of ASUO coverage. Oh YEA CAPITALS ARE SOOO WITTTTTY. I’m taking the under in the bet.

  8. Kai Davis says:

I think they’ve confused ‘truth telling’ and journalism with TDS. Sad.

That said, I didn’t know that the ASUO was funding terrorist expansion in 3rd world Universities. Thank god I have the ODE to tell me!

  9. Betz says:

My biggest gripe about the ASUO blog on the ODE website is that it is trying too hard to be funny and witty: boldening unnecessary words, adding too much information (side-notes, really) in parenthesis, and trying to mimic the satirical cynicism of Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.

  10. Kai Davis says:

“Also, I love that the ODE blogger doesn

  11. olly says:

“Why are random words bolded for no apparent reason, WHY?!”

I actually hope they keep doing this. Gives it a nice Jackie Harvey aspect.

Also, I love that the ODE blogger doesn’t get the ODB reference.

  12. T says:

Hey, guys, before you snark, maybe you should all go to the ODE’s blog and read Meredith LaFrance’s fascinating expose on how frat parties are, like, totally overrated. It’s pretty journalistically solid, if you ask me. Fourth State indeed, ODE!

  13. Vincent says:

This appears to be a case of “If the Commentator can do it, surely the Emerald can do it better!”

  14. Kai Davis says:

“without the constant oversight we provide, they could use it for nefarious purposes and you would never know.”

Thank you, media! Without you I wouldn’t know how to shit properly!

  15. Ossie says:

I’ll take the over, but only if that first post counts as one.

  16. Ian says:

With a bold and impressive start like that, I’m setting the O/U at 5 posts over the next 7 months.

  17. Scott says:

At first, I thought you were bolding various things in the quote to mock them but then I clicked the link…

    Why?

Why are random words bolded for no apparent reason, WHY?!

I did like that apparently they think that students will only know about the ASUO if they read their blog, which most students probably (definitely) won’t read.

  18. Betz says:

    I give it two weeks
