Ducks Wearing Retro Unis for Cal Game?

The Register-Guard’s Rob Moseley writes today that “[a]ll indications are that Oregon will unveil a retro-style uniform” on Saturday. Speculation is rampant, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that the best-case scenario is that they resemble those worn during the 1995 run to the Rose Bowl:

Ricky Whittle (Mike Powell/ALLSPORT)

Unfortunately, at this point it looks like the Ducks’ best hope for winning the game is for Cal’s Jahvid Best to be so impressed with Oregon’s tasteful throwback fashion statements that he simply takes a knee every time he touches the ball rather than risk exposing them to unsightly sweat stains.

I said that our defense had to play well if we had any chance because the offense wasn’t showing much of anything. We won because of our defense, and our offense helped us win despite itself (who is happy at halftime after 3 lost fumbles? The Ducks today).

  2. Miles Rost says:

Hey, Behemoth, what was that about the Ducks?

    Tim:

I predict that, within the next five years, hipster types will start thinking it’s ironic and “vintage” dress the way you and I did in high school.

I mean, they’ve been mining 1980’s style for a long time now. They’re going to have to move onto fresher material at some point.

  4. Timothy says:

    Holy shit, 1996 is retro?

Ducks please lose and start several huge fights after the game. It is the way of the Duck spirit.

  6. Justin says:

I hope they will wear the 1994 jerseys, but they will likely wear the 1996 jerseys, since that was the first year nike did their uniforms.

  7. C.T. Behemoth says:

    I loved finding that one.

    Let’s get real for a second…

If the Ducks are going to beat Cal, they have to have the best game of their last two seasons. Why?

Masoli is sitting at 379yds & 45.3% completion percentage this season. YUCK.

Sure, he’s run for 145yds, but my point is that the Ducks are one-dimensional until proven otherwise…and Blount’s absence isn’t really helping. We’ve done alright without him, but being one-dimensional with him in the backfield would’ve been a lot better. Now, teams barely respect our ability to run and know we can’t pass.

Cal has scored 146 points in its games thus far, to Oregon’s 77. They have allowed 41 points, to the ducks 79. The only patsy that Cal has played was Eastern Washington.

The Ducks’ schedule has been VERY respectable so far, which puts our losses in a slightly different light than if we were playing easily winnable games. Still, Cal is bringing a game to Autzen that the Ducks haven’t had to deal with.

Obviously, we have to stop Best from having a monster day. He’s going to get his though, so what we have to be sure to do is to not let our desire to stop him give Cal great passing opportunities. That’s where the Ducks are strong (our secondary), so we’ve got a chance. We can’t rely on Thurmond III to do it all though. Our D-Line HAS TO HOLD and get some pressure on the QB (i.e. sacks, hurries, deflected passes)

If the Ducks manage to click on offense, this game could EASILY get out of control scoring wise.

Vegas has the Ducks as 7 point underdogs at home.

They are wearing the 1994 throwback unis. and we can beat cal
